any schemes to pay for 18 year to work for home business

Hi

wonder if anyone can answer this. Both my wife and I are in employment. My wife in the last 6 months had started a small beauty business from home, It will be a while before we see any return on the business.

Her daughter has turned 18 and is no longer in education. We have managed to secure some beauty courses for her with an idea to join the business.

I spoke with job centre plus about a job seekers allowance, but they frowned on the training saying she would mpt be entitled to job seekers as she would have to be available for a job should one come up. Whether her training is 2 hours or 20 hours.

As we would be effectively employing her are their any schemes available that would assist as we would be putting her into employment.

any info would be appreciated, I can provide more details if needed.

Your daughter wouldnt be entitled to JSA because she isnt looking for work, she has a job already. You are employing her so would be responsible for her tax and NI.

Have a look at the directgov website so see if there are any grants that you can get for employing a young person?

  • Hi
she is not employed by the business. She is more of a helper at the moment until she has had enough practice on what she has learned. I assume she can then claim job seekers.

"She is more of a helper at the moment until she has had enough practice on what she has learned."

So she would be a trainee in her workplace.

She'd still have a job. The alternative is for her to go to a recognised college and do approved work placements and potentially arranged directly via her college/educational institution?

Althoug, when you say "she is not employed by the business" - is there a formal role defined here? Like, I'm assuming from that statement that she receives no wages, etc?
