How far back re late credit card payments?

When a mortgage company says "have you ever paid your credit cards late?" how far back do they want you to go? Eg, if you haven't paid a card late for 18 months, but you've paid adhocly no later than one month late prior to that, will it affect your borrowing power? Even if you have now paid them all off in full and have no debt?

Things can stay on your credit file for 6 years, but they are probabaly talking more in the last year
there is probabaly something showing on your credit file to them - have you got hold of this for yourselfs before ?
or it might me a standard question so in your answer no, not in 18 months as all clear
worth getting hold of your file though0 -
Thanks for that, I was more thinking about this time next year when I want a new mortgage - we both have excellent credit ratings, but I paid adhocly up to about 6 months ago (since then my partner took over and has paid every one on time). We are hoping to be clear in a year so that there are more options open to us, but I was worried that they would go back as far as day dot!!Forever I will sail towards the horizon with you0

The question does go back as far as day dot. It seems inherently to discriminate against older borrowers, who've had more time to experience banking and other errors that cause inadvertent late payments.
Answering no to anything that might be on a credit report seems unlikely to be a good idea.
Or you can answer the precise question asked: "cards", so if you had two and paid one late, you didn't pay your cards late because it was only one of them, singular not plural.
More seriously: ask Egg customer service what the actual question they want answered is.0
