Angie please try to remain strong . It sounds as if you have been through hell. Go on the debt advice forum and look at Martains guide to debts.
It sounds to me that they are bullying you. I bet a judge would not take to kindy to this. Have you tried the cab to try and negotiate the settlement to a more realistic amount.0 -
hi there and welcome, deep breaths....
as the debts sound like they are business related, please call the business debtline for free advice https://www.bdl.org.uk
please ring them tomorrow....if you are made bankrupt you might not necessarily lose your home so you need to take advice to find out where you stand
good luck x0 -
Hi,
Try the taxaid helpline as well: http://taxaid.org.uk/pages/taxaid-helpline
also see this part of their website about HMRC rules about customers with mental health problems (second half of the page) - they are supposed to make extra allowances and can even write off the debt sometimes, so it might be worth telling them if you haven't already.

Only after the last river has been poisoned,
Only after the last fish has been caught,
Only then will you find that money cannot be eaten0 -
I know this is getting on top of you but please slow down - its only debt, your health and family are much more important. I know that is easier said than done when you're in the thick of it but stressing really will only make matters worse. Have you contacted citizen's advice bureau plus the agencies other posters have suggested? They will let you know what your options are and once you know that you can start an action plan.
As confused says, you may not necessarily lose your home in bankruptcy. Do you own your home or rent? If you own, how much is outstanding on the mortgage and how much do you think the house is worth?
Bankruptcy isn't the end of the world - most of us on here (including me!) have been bankrupt and we are living with it and I don't think anyone regrets their decision to go bankrupt. The debt would then be one less worry for you.
Contact the agencies advised above and come back and let us know what they said. We are here to give you lots of support so please try not to panic.

I won't add anything to the excellent advice already given relating to your financial worries. Do try to follow that advice over the next few days though.
But I know what stress does to Bipolar so would just say make full use of your mental health team and pdoc and try to work at gaining some stability with the meds. I know they hinder as well as help, but at the moment you need all the help you can get from the dreaded drugs.
Hang in there because you know you will get through this. :AWhen I joined, I needed a name. The forum members gave one to me...I am INAN

all i can add to that - as a person bith bipolar and just about to go bankrupt - is make sure your mental health team know whats going on.
my social worker took me to the advice shop today and has filled in forms about my mental health
best wishes

Unfortunately the legal system in england usually distances out problems like mental illness, death and other problems.
Unfortunately if your hubby owes 30k tax then he must've earned a good 120k or so over those years.. Its a shame didnt put the tax to one side.
In the end i dont think that will win you the sympathy vote with them, if the moneys owed you will have to try and come to an arrangement with them.. But remember its only debt, not worth doing anythins tupid.0
