phone interview - never phoned back

A few days ago I sent off my application for a job and today received a phone-call about it. They asked if they could give me a phone interview there and then, but as I was out at the time I wasn't able to talk. I asked if they could ring back in an hour's time as I would then be home which they said was fine. Of course that time came and no phone call. I left it an extra half hour after that and I rang them, I spoke to the head of the department and the woman said she would find out which one of the 2 others rang me and either they or her would ring me back...This was several hours ago now and still nothing.

Any point in contacting them again or shall I take this one as a missed opportunity?

It really depends on what company you applied for? If it is just a recruitment agency, I phone up the next day. If it is a job, no harm in phoning up. If you really want it, you should phone back.

  • Maybe it gives a little insight into the type of company they really are... ? I would be concerned that these clearly inept people who can't return a call would be my colleagues.

On the other hand, maybe they are just very busy 'cos they are short staffed and haven't filled the position you applied for yet!

I'd leave it a day, then call again. If still no joy from them, consider it a lucky escape :-)

Well I just had a text message with a number to call...I called it and they then told me they'll call me back within the 'next hour' - could be waiting all bleeding night for this, so annoying. Been hanging around waiting since 1.30......

Really need the job (even if its not ideal) so I dont really want to give up on it
