First Phone Call

I just received my first phone call (of many many to come no doubt) and I'm a nervous wreck!

It was from one of my CC co's - he asked me to confirm who I was by giving him my DOB to which I refused, he then proceeded to tell me he was calling to ask why I'd cancelled my DD. Surely he shouldn't say this when I haven't gone through the data protection procedure, should he? I think right at the beginning of the call he may have said "Is that Mrs xxxx" and I said "speaking", but that was the only thing I said - I refused to give him my DOB and then asked why he was talking to me about cancelling DDs when he didn't know who I was. He just kept repeating 'why have you cancelled and why don't you want to speak to me' - I asked him to put any issue in writing, and then promptly hung up.

Can someone reassure me that I did the right thing? I know I shouldn't have said "speaking" when he first initiated the call, but that's a force of habit that I will get of immediately.

You did the right thing. He didn't.

Have you sent off the letter asking for all communication to be in writing yet? if not you might want to send them out to save the hassle of them keep calling.

    Thanks both :)

Tixy I've not sent that letter yet, I've only just sent off my token payment letters and didn't think to include the 'contact in writing only' with the same letters. Doh! :(

Georgie - I have read that thread, absolutely brilliant!!! Wish I had the nerve.. hehe maybe a little further down the road!

About 30 years ago, my mother was involved with the staging of a play at the school where she taught, and one of the 'props' was a rather loud, cap firing toy revolver. For some reason, it was lying on the table in the hall at home when the phone rang - and I answered it.

"Is Jim there?" asked the caller.

I told him he had dialled the wrong number.

"Don't give me that!" he insisted. I'm tired of being messed about with! I want to speak to Jim. Will you go and get him?"

I didn't care for his tone, nor the expletives (omitted here) with which he punctuated his speech. "No, you can't speak to Jim." I replied. "He's dead."

    "He's WHAT???"

"He's dead, or I thought he was... Hang on a minute!" I said, holding the gun near the handset...

    BANG!

"Sorry about that. He's dead enough now!"

"So ... so who are you?" asked the caller.

"I'm Jim's killer", I replied, and hung up before I collapsed in helpless mirth.

Hahahaha brilliant!!!! I was thinking of the old carrier bag rustle.. 'line is breaking up, can't hear you' thing but then realised they'll just call back again and try to get a clearer line!

Maybe now you have got the first one out of the way they will get easier to handle - I am absolutely dreading the phonecalls. Have been on edge all day at work even though no one has my work number :o - no idea what I'll say - maybe I should send letters now saying everything in writing please before they even start thinking about ringing?

Hopefully in a few months time this will all be like a distant memory

Who, me? Hell no! I'm not ready for that just yet :o

I've been down branding, nagging the family about turning stuff off, shorter showers, shopping around for insurance, using cash back sites, buying many fewer and cheaper brand clothes (Primark interview suit - £15 bargain :D) etc for ages (well the last couple of years at least) - I'm not ready to be told the harsh reality of everything else.

We are in a deficit situation currently anyway due to me being laid off from one of my 3 jobs (yes I really did have to work that many just to make minimum payments :(), DH is going though the process of getting a private hire licence to try and bring extra cash in between his work shifts whilst I'm also hunting for another job that fits around the others that I have. We already know there is no way in the world we can pay anymore than token payments until we bring extra cash in, we can barely scrape enough to pay the essentials even with the cuts that CCCS have included in their budget planner for us. Very little in the way of assets and just enough in the bank to (hopefully) tide us over until we pick up more work.

So no, I've not even contemplating posting SOA.. hopefully one day I will be in a position to do it though.

LOL. Funny how all those security questions can be dispensed with when you owe them money and they want it back. :rotfl:
