joint Loan

Hi Martin a bit of advice please, my friend took out a joint personal loan with her husband. They have since got divorced and he is now refusing to pay back his half. She has persuaded the bank to close the a/c after mentioning she was getting in touch with yourself they agreed. The bank have told her that even if she pays her half of the loan they will still look to her to pay the balance if her ex defaults. Is she still liable? What advice can you give please?
She has a month before the next payment is due.

If it's a joint loan then they are both equally liable to pay off the balance - and the Bank can chase her for the money. Was this not brought into the calculations when the financial settlement was agreed through their solicitors?
