I got some new curtains yesterday for our bedroom. They're from a shop that sells M&S stuff, and I'm really pleased with them, the only trouble being the smell.
I don't know if they've absorbed the smell of someone's perfume, or if they been treated with something, but they've smell really strong. It's not a nasty smell, just a really heavy, musky smell. They're brand new so I don't really want to get them dry-cleaned already, but don't know what to try. I've had the bedroom window open since I hung them, but it doesn't seem to be making a difference. Any ideas?

Nothing works better than fresh air. Can you hang them outside on a day when you could grab them quickly if it rains?
I have always found that any attempts to mask the smell just add another layer.0 -
Where were they made?
I was told some time ago, that imported fabrics are often sprayed with something before packaging.
Can you hang them outside for a blow, or maybe steam them with iron and some of that fancy ironing water?Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -
Blimey, that was quick!!
Think I'll check out the weather forecast for tomorrow, and stick them out if it's going to be fine.
I've got a Polti steam iron, so I'll try that as well if fresh air doesn't do the trick.
Thanks for your swift replies.0 -
Maybe someone had a grudge at the factory
You could take them back or hang them out like the OP saidAn average day in my life:hello: :mad: :coffee::coffee::coffee::T:rotfl: :rotfl:

I am no expert in property but have lived in many types of homes, in many locations and can only talk from experience.0
