when to send invites?

I have family and friends asking constant questions about our wedding, which is on 14th Oct. The reception venue is a bit of a drive away so family etc may want to book the local hotel so When do you think I can send out invites?

6 months seems to be common...I'm trying to sort mine now! But no harm in letting people know the date ahead of time if they need to book accommodation - I didn't do a formal 'save the date' thing but set up website and told travelling friends ages ago so they had time to book

eta: you're getting married on a Friday so people may need to book time off work...even more reason to tell them pretty soon

Like you we had people asking questions so decided to send them sooner because it is a weekday wedding and a lot of our guests are travelling so just consider your circumstances and if things like that apply the earlier the better! You can always give some people theirs later like we still haven't given some local evening guests theirs yet because it wasn't necessary :)

we sent our invites out 4 months before the wedding but we put up a weddingpath website about 2 months before that as we had been asked by people who we'd sent save the dates to about hotels etc

definitely recommend the website route as it's free and you can put so much information on it and as we had one's travelling from glasgow and also as it's a bank holiday weekend we're getting married it meant people could get stuff sorted before the official invites go out.

We emailed everyone that we had email addresses for with the website link and password, lots of people found it very handy.
