Just to make life even more confusing, i bought a set of cups in this country, and engraved on them is this information:
1 cup, 250ml, 9fl oz
1/2 cup, 125ml, 4fl oz
1/3 cup, 80ml, 3 fl oz
1/4 cup, 60ml, 2 fl oz
I do find them useful for some things, like measuring out rice, and I do use them for American recipes without altering the amounts because I think that this sort of measurement dates back to the times of my Gran and even my MIL, who, when you ask them for a recipe use a bit of this and a handful of that and bake it in a medium oven until it is done!
That is to say, I don't think that the sort of recipe that uses this sort of measurement is going to be any the worse for a bit of variation either way!0 -

This is because there are in fact "Metric Cups" Canadian Cups, Australian Cups NZ Cups et etc. Many are very similar but others differ enough to make or break a recipe.
It is doing my head inThe quicker you fall behind, the longer you have to catch up...0 -
Cup measurements are for bras. Unless I am cooking a bra cake, I'm sticking with pounds and ounces, and in extremis, kilo/grams.Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realise that we cannot eat money.0
