Security Check - Help please

I want to apply for a civillian post in the MOD and it says that I will be security checked - I do have a criminal conviction - Drink Driving but I just wandered if it's even worth applying as I don't know if I would pass the security checks with this conviction?
Has anyone been in a similar situation with this type of role at all?
Many thanks

I have not been in this situation but I would think that the MOD are more interested in whether you are a member of a terrorist organisation or have sympathies with Osama Bin-Liner etc. It's national security they are concerned about so if there is a box on the application form that asks for criminal convictions to be listed then be honest. A drink driving conviction is not the sort of thing that they are worried about, dishonesty is. Security checks go into your background, financial situation and known political views/associates. The range and depth of the security check will depend upon your work and the access you may have to classified information.
In the end what is the worst outcome? They don't offer you the job

Convictions do not prevent you passing the security test, a lot of the test is about integrity so you will normally fail if you have convictions that you do not declare but are normally (Depending on the post and conviction)if you have convictions and declare them.
I was advised that they want you to declare everything so that you cannot be black mailed.
I know plenty of people with quite a few convictions who have passed the security checks for Whitehall work. They declared their convictions, the ones who did not declare the convictions failed the check0 -
Criminal convictions aren't necesarily a barrier to employment with the MOD, but as others have said they won't be interested in you if they find anything in your background which suggests you could be compromised.
Prisoners and former prisoners have a long history of service in the army, and some sections (SAS, Paras, etc) would be short staffed if criminal records barred employment.
Drink driving wouldn't be on their radar unless driving is involved in the job. Otherwise you'll be fine.
Good luck.0 -
Thank you all very much for your replies - they are greatly apreciated

I've decided to apply - what harm can it do?
Thanks again0
