Hiya I wonder if anyone has come across what has just happened to me at work. I have just received a letter from my employer congratulating me on being 1 of the top 10% on my unit .In the letter it said I would receive a pay rise and my hourly rate would increase to £7.70.( which i received in my march pay back dated to feb 1st ) I was not the only one and another woman received the same letter but no pay rise . This lady enquired as to why no pay rise. HR apparently looked in to it and said you are not entitled . I have now been told ( not in writing) that I am not entitled as I have not met the criteria. The criteria is you have to be on the performing rate of pay since the august before ... check . you have to reach the performing target ... check and you will receive the new rate pro rota taking in to account the length of service that year.... Now all of a suddern im not entitled and they will take the over payment back hahaha yeah funny .... thanks a lot for the reward for working my butt off, turning up when feeling ill and out performing 120 other people who couldnt be bothered
Another thing they have just done is take my holiday day booked in july 2010 off me and cancelled it cos it falls on a bank holiday and other people have requested it off .. I had my holiday confirmed and booked a weekend away as it is my sons birthday, now i looks like I will have to cancel ... I think my employer is breaking the law but need to know for sure can any one help me

It would be far easier if your post was more structured with paragraphs.
So, you've received a letter awarding a pay rise, but now have verbally said you can't have it? I would say the letter overrides this, and they would need to put what they said verbally in writing.
For the holiday, I assume you mean July 2011? If so, yes an employer can request your holiday to be cancelled. But you may have a case if they later allowed another employee (doing the same job) that day off if you booked it first.0 -
Oh dear seems im not good at this sorry
, With regard to the holiday I booked it in july 2010 for monday 25th april 2011 and when I checked my holiday schedule it had been cancelled, I asked why and am awaiting a relpy . I had booked 24th, 25th, 26th april 2011 off back in july 2010 , holiday confirmed as booked ,so I booked a weekend away as per rules at work ( do not book a holiday until your holiday application is confirmed ) ,now they have cancelled the 25th of april 2011 after sending round a bank holiday wish list and others have now requested the day off.
Just wondered can they do this
sorry my post was not up to scatch in its presentation will try harder next time

If you have had your holiday accepted and in writing and the reason they are cancelling it is because other staff members have booked it off since, then it is the Company's fault. I would immediately write a grievance to the manager stating that you have booked a week away because you had your holiday approved in July for this April and that if they now wish you to cancel it then you would expect them to pay any costs. However, you would prefer to take the holiday because of (reason) and feel it is unfair that you are being advised your holiday is being cancelled because of other people booking the time off after your holiday request had been approved.
I would ask for a response within 5 days so that if your manager ignores it you can immediately go to the second stage of the grievance procedure.
In regard to your pay. If you have a letter in writing stating your salary is going up and being backdated, then it is a contract. If the Company is now verbally stating that this was incorrect then they should give notice to that effect.
Dont worry about how your post is presented, it was fine.0 -
Appeal the decision about the payrise as soon as you get it in writing or it doesn't show in your pay packet.
Put a grievance in for the ridiculous removal of leave. As per the previous post.If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0
