How many credit checks??

Hi guys

I have just viewed my Experian credit report and discovered that the Halifax have done three credit checks during our mortgage application. They did one on 9th March (around the time the broker put in the full application), another the day after on 10th March and then another on 23rd (the day they released the offer).

Is this normal? Also, do you think they will be doing anymore prior to completion? Concerned this may have a negative effect on our credit rating given we were hoping to apply for a 0% balance transfer cc after the house purchase has gone through in order to try and transfer our balance on the current cc as it begins to charge interest shortly.

Thanks guys

Are they "Size 10s" or the soft footprints oft touted on here as being invisible to lenders?

aaah just checked and only one is a full check - the other two are noted as "unrecorded". Unsure as to why they have felt the need to do 3 in any case.....
Wish all of this house buying stress was all over now! Still waiting for the Halifax to give the ok re the unadopted road business - one week over the exchange date already :( Do you reckon they could tell us if we called them rather than waiting for the solicitor to chase it????

    Thanks KingStreet

I use the same service, and over the last few months, the number of potential lenders checking more report has been ridiculous. My bank did two or three times when I was applying for my mortgage, but it doesnt seem to have affected my score.

The thing that troubles me is that some insurance companies seem to have taken it upon themselves to run checks every once in a while. There's at least 9 'soft footprints' like this. These are companies I've never used, but may have had quotes from by comparison sites. Ive not asked for any form of credit from these companies at any point recently, and while they wont affect my rating, I'd like to tell them to stop bl**dy looking! I dont mind if i've applied for a service, but they seem to be doing it speculatively.
    I have a blog too...

Yes I agree - we have had about eight of those from insurance companies too! Did you have anymore checks from your lender prior to completion too?

When I applied to the Co-op Bank for a mortgage 5 weeks ago they did an ID verification and a search and then the following week did another ID verification and another search. The 2 footprints from the full searches have affected my score and I've been waiting 4 weeks for one of them to be removed as the other was done without my permission or knowledge. They don't appear to be rushing as I still haven't had a decision either.

AFAIK the "unrecorded enquiry" entries are ID/Address verification checks, so they won't be visible to anyone else.

That's right, only 'credit application' search footprints can be used in credit scoring.
