Complete and utter despair!!!!

I am on a real downer today. Story in short (!) OH made redundant in april 05 and was out of work for twelve months. I was sacked (no other word for it) whilst I was on maternity leave. We both got jobs but the stress of managing our debt (about £20k) was hard. We had just got back on our feet when OH was given an ultimatum - resign or we will let you go at the end of your probationary period. He resigned. Consequently my monthly salary covers the mortgage with £57 left. We are in arrears with the Council tax and when we wrote to tell them of our situation they said whilst we sympathise we will now take you to court.

My employment tribunal which was scheduled for thurs has been postponed. OH has just had a bad interview leaving him despondent and although the benefits office have given us job seekers allowance, the mortgage protection people are saying that as he resigned we are not entitled to make a claim.

I can deal with the CC debt, I have written to them and told them we can't pay, I am just unsure what to do about the Council tax. I have had twelve months of fighting and I am not sure I can do it anymore. We are hard working people and I feel like we just keep getting slapped down every time we get up. I know there are people out there worse off than us, but I really don't know what to do anymore.

Are you entitled to council tax benefit- you must be given your low income

Call the local council, and tell them you have only just realised you are entitled to CTB, and applying now. Advise them there has been a delay, you apologise for that, but as they never told you you might be able to claim it, then thats why its delayed.

Dont pay any more ( if you can do token of a quid, do it to show willing) but otherwise get the aplication form done- today.

Is there anything we can help you with? Have you done a SOA - don't read the board thoroughly so might have missed it? Is selling an option? Sounds like your mortgage is pretty big ???? This won't sort anything out quickly of course but might need to consider it?

Have thought about CTB but not sure if we would be entitlted. There is no harm in trying and will do that tonight.

Mortgage is pretty big, but we thought we were covered with mortgage protection. Did an SOA when we first started on the board and have cut everything down to a minimum. We keep a spending diary - we just don't have enough income.

I am owed money from former employer but have to go to tribunal to get a ruling and therefore get money. Its been ten long months.

Aw Sammy it sounds awful for you. A long 10 months of slog by the sound of it. Hope you get the CTB and your OH finds a great new job soon.
