Nobody pays my travel to go to interviews - why should it be any different for you just because you don't have a job?

What do you want, a medal? You obviously have independent means, while most who are unfortunate enough to have to claim JSA do not, therefore it is right for the jobcentre to provide as much assistance as it can to get people back into employment.

Because if you have a job it's your choice to go or not where as when you have no job you have no choice and need a job.
  • JCP & Advisors do have a discretionary fund for things like travel, clothing etc. It is now a flexible single fund rather than seperate, targeted funding e.g. one pot of money for travel etc. It is based on individual circumstances and at the discretion of the advisor/employer advisor or manager.

...and on how much money is actually left in the budget. Seeing as it is set on the tax year i.e. Starts in April the later on in the year it gets the less is left in the pot (if any at all), hence discretionary.
A waist is a terrible thing to mind.

Of course it will and does run out quickly but not as bad as when for example people needed travel money but that pot had run out but there was plenty left in the clothes etc. pot. It couldnt be transferred between funds and went wasted, now it is more flexible, but yes, sadly not unlimited.

Welcome to the Tories. Same as they were in the 1980's and early 90's. Its almost as if they want an underclass to scoff at. One wonders whether Cameron wants to beat Maggies unemployment record.

Yes they've even taken a leaf out of maggies book and given away whoops sorry " sold " the post office that's about the only thing that maggie left for them to give away to their own as that's whats happened
I only looked on this thread as my friend has been told today the so called job centre ( in my view ANTI job centre ) that the interview has to be at least 90 min away Just wonder how they expect anyone to get into work May be they have taken a lead out of another old Tory when he said get on your bike Good job the Tories are all millionaires mostly as said before because of the workers not the shirkers of this country
Before anyone has a pop at me I've worked for 43 years

This thread is from 2011. It might be more productive, if you have a question, to start a new one?

Rules change greatly since 2011, I can assure you as it stands today there is travel to interview scheme but its rules have greatlt increased. You can claim but need to ensure you qualify. You need to notify them before the interview, a rail warrant may be issued instead of fares, some offices have workwise schemes. People are exempt if they are on Work Programme or the interview is witin 90mins travel.
If you dont ask you dont know, worse that can happen is they say no but you can always ask for an explaination.

The only thing you are correct with is the government dont live in the real world but this will never change.
