How can I get perfume out of broken perfume bottle?

Does anyone know how to get the perfume out of a bottle with a proken pump?

I've about 10ml left in it and the spray mechanism has totally gone. I have tried taking off the top to see the white tube and tried putting a pin in it incase this was blocked. No luck .

It seems a waste to just chuck it in the bin. It was a gift, an expensive one at that. Any ideas that dont involve smashing the bottle! (it's about an inch thick anyway and I dont wanna lose the perfume).

This is the offending bottle - http://www.houseoffraser.co.uk/null+Prada+Eau+de+Parfum/PRA_EDP,default,pd.html

The metal bit seems to be infused into the glass, you can't just unscrew it to decant it sadly.

Anyone had similar problems or have any advice?

Thanks

I bought a Travelo ( a travel atomiser) for carrying perfume around with me. To fill it you pull off the spray top of the perfume bottle and place the travelo on on top of the white tube.

Pushing down on the gadget transfers the perfume into it. Would that work for you?

You don't need to unscrew the whole top ( I can't on my perfume bottle either).

Then you are going to have to clear the blockage somehow. I've got a hand drill with a 1mm drill bit which I use for craftwork. Anything similar that you could force down? Darning needle perhaps? You can put a bit more force behind it than with a pin

I'd be surprised if the tube was blocked though- I would think the problem is with the spray nozzle as I've had them fail on me as well.
  • I had one like this recently and when I took the suirty top of the little white bit bit that stckis up out of the metal was broken off - so the refill atomiser didnt work.
Try pressing the white bit that sticks up with the side of your nail and if perfume comes out then tube isnt blocked.
I got pair of pliers and gently twisted the metal thats fused to the glass and prised it off.
Got an old small bottle and poured the perfume into that.
May need to use it quickly but better than throwing it away.
    Hope this helps
  • How strange! The exact same thing happened to my Prada perfume. I just gave up and left it lying on my dresser. What a waste of money ... Sigh :(

Get a bottle ready for the perfume as you don't want to leave it sitting open or it will evaporate...

Get a nice thick needle or a fine nail ( lie a panel pin)

Hold it with a pair of pliers, heat the end with a cigarette lighter. Don't make it too hot, and don't let the flame anywhere near the perfume vapours.

Jam the needle into the bottle to get the nylon tube out of the way.

Decant the perfume into the new bottle.

If there's still a lot left I'd consider taking it back to the shop it was bought in to complain - they might give you a replacement bottle, or a couple of 5ml samples to make up for it breaking. Of course you'd need to do this before you tried to open it up with a hot needle.
