Had a text from Fairfax Solicitors re HMRC

Just a heads-up in case anyone else gets a call.

I'd spoken to these folks about 6 months ago. HMRC were chasing unpaid VAT from my company that was forced to close when I went BR. I explained the situation to them when I got the call, they apologised for bothering me and recommended I spoke to HMRC (again) to clear it up (which I did).

Now, I've had a text from Fairfax again asking me to call. Just phoned them, told them I've explained it all already and why are they contacting me again after 6 months?

They state that they have just received a batch of files from HMRC and it now seems some of them should not have been passed through by HMRC (it seems I'm not the first to call back to say, "Why are you asking me the same questions again?").

Either HMRC have made a !!!!-up, or are trying again on some accounts to see if they can get any money in.

Anyway, the person I spoke to was very helpful - I offered a copy of my BR notice and discharge certificate, they said not needed, I also offered to speak to HMRC myself, again they said not to bother, they will return the account with the details I've given.

I'll await the next call in 6 months time :D

  • I am getting sick and tired of receiving texts and calls from Fairfax Solicitors, asking for someone who had my mobile number before, I told them a few times it is my number now and not his, what more can I do, they obviously don't believe me.

Just to clarify, when you say 'company' do you mean a limited company or just your trading style?
