Hi All,
I graduated a while back in computer science (ten years ago), I have been working as a programmer since then but my job is going to be outsourced soon. What would be a decent paying job for a person of my background?
Thanks

Just less than 30k. Was expecting to be on 100k by now like all the adverts told me before I went to uni0

You can only gauge by the salaries on offer at the moment in other similar jobs.
I would say however that with ten years experience and assuming you are "ambitious" with your attitude and work ethic then I would say you may be slightly underpaid at the moment.0 -

Back then computers were a mysterious thing to most people, these days everyone has one and thinks they know it all
Similar situation for Electronics Engineers like myself, technology has become "throw away" and they've been teaching basic electronics in school GSCE.... Sooooo jobs are rare and employers are like "hmm, 20k+ for this experienced guy or £9.6k for this school leaver??? who probably knows just as much, because electronics is so simple!!!!"

Where abouts are you based? Are you willing to relocate?
What technologies have you been working with for the last 10 years?0 -
my DH is a programmer (although he's sort of like a team leader - basically he's the project manager at a software development company, i think he is 50% PM time and 50% development hands on time) with 13 years experience and a degree. he earns much more than me, but his wages really shot up when he moved into the project handling side of things. just an idea!
he had to do some evening classes, but it wasn't too difficult from what I could tell, and he went away on a couple of weeks for project training for his formal qualifications - is this something you would consider?
also! from what Dh tells me, whilst some of the "grunt" work is shipped out to other lower experience staff e.g. abroad, a lot of the more "critical" stuff legally and practically has to stay in the Uk to get the employee quality and security levels correct... i.e financial services, stuff like that. maybe you can move sectors if that's an option?"Today is your day! I think, you should search same field job from other sources. As you have 10 years experience then some one can hire you on high payment.0

(just food for thought here - I'm in financial software in the south - and we hire our graduates on 28-32k)0

Depends what programming languages you have experience of, what systems you've been working on, where you live, how far you're willing to travel, whether you're prepared to be a contractor, etc.
By the way, I prefer the term "software developer"0 -
