Dont know what force your with but they could provide you a letter from your personel department that states you had to cut your hours to keep your job as its common knowledge for Governement departments.

They have a threshhold that they cant go over called protected earnings. I was nealy going onto 1/2 pay due to an illness and the DEO would have been invalid.:)

Good luck in the future as it is the way its going in the police just now. 2 people can do 6 jobs.

LOL - unless you're in my local - and then one can't even do their own job competently! :)

Try and get a letter stating what the alternative was - reduce hours or lose job. Will they put that in writing?

I guess the way you have to look at it, is if you and the child's other parent were still together, and you had to make the same choice knowing you had a family to provide for - would you have made the same decision?
  • I have the redundancy in writing but not the reduced hours contract, we had only negotiated it and hadnt got round to having my revised contract written up. I reckon if we were still together I would have come to the same decision. Its a shame the CSA had other ideas.

I called the CSA but I was stonewalled and I gave up.

I have spoken to a CAB adviser and she has poured over the paperwork and it has been decided I will take the redundancy payment as originally planned. She discovered I have a redundancy insurance policy and this will cover the mortgage, housing benefit apparently does not cover all the mortgage. Also the redundancy payment is not available for the CSA to make deductions because is it not income. I will send an interim change of circumstances and the CSA can confirm it with the jobseekers allowance people.

This is a good short term solution and gives me an income to be going on with, and it doesnt create problems for later. I appreciate your input kelloggs36 and I will forward a copy of the redundancy notice.

The obvious long term solution is to start the appeals process. As he CSA only made a negligible financial advantage with its SOS decision, we will scrap the appeal, not worth the effort. I'll send a short letter to the CSA, then leave it there.

If that is the case, then you know yourself that you have not done anything purposely to get lowered child support payments - so fight your corner! If you are eligible for JSA, then yes, go on JSA and put in for a reassessment based on changed circumstances - but do it right away.
  • Its nothing to do with lowing child payments, it was the CSA that saw it that way.

Ive completed all the forms online and my employer is completing the paperwork now, that might takes several weeks. I have been promised reinstatement should my post re-open as they admit its costly to train new SOCO's (forensics etc) than take on experienced ones from another force. Ive written to the CSA with an interim change of circumstances. Thanks for all your help and advice.
