In os / storecupboard style, I'm now going to get one of the beers that has been lurking in our fridge since we moved in
Must check the dates though - we moved in on Easter weekend!:rotfl:

I never knew beer could last that long. DH always tells me it'll go off if its not drunk the same day it's bought. And he rigorously applies this rule:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Oooops raiding the reduced section in Somerfields, ok I got some good bargains as most was 20% of the usual price, but ended up spending about £14 including milk, picnic stuff etc I needed. Have added to total.

Maybe it's not so much what you buy as where you buy it from. For instance take the price of Medium turkey crowns. From Tesco they cost £12.92 and from Waitrose £17.14.

Now be honest folks. Which would you buy if the family were coming for Christmas dinner??
I'd get the Tesco one and rely on my brilliance as a cook (!) to cover up any difference - but the difference may be only in price. Who makes them for the supermarkets?
    Besides we don't have a Waitrose. ;-)

  • I am going to try for £180 this month that will feed 2 adults, one 4 year old and one 2 year old.

Well so far I have spent about £70 but my month only started on the 7th. I normally do my shopping weekly but the shop I did last week should last for a bit longer than that, with the exception of a few bits and bobs.

    So Far : Week 1 (7 - 14 Dec) - Spent 70.00

    Remaining from £180 = £110

  • Hi,
I'd like to try this food challenge - do people's amount include detergents, body sprays, razors, etc or just food. If it's everything then I've got a long way to go. Some people say they're spending around £30 per week as a couple. If I get washing powder, lynx, razors for OH etc, dishwasher powder, cleaning bits, they can come to over £20, would this then leave only £10 for food. Much appreciate any advice...

My food budget is just food and washing up/washing clothes products. It includes kittys food and litter and the only cleaning thing I ever buy now is cheapo stardrops.

Alcohol comes out of the alcohol budget (which is usually limitless :) ), and personal-ly things like razors, deodorant, shower gel, toothpaste, toothbrushes etc just get bought as and when and don't have a budget.
