Barclaycard served a default notice on me 4-5 years ago for a debt I stopped paying.
Today I've had a letter from them saying they have served me with another default notice. I've not paid anything since the last default notice.
Can they do this?

No they can't. You can only be defaulted once on each debt. Could it perhaps be a misleadingly worded letter? Check your credit files (from all 3- Experian, Equifax & Call Credit) and if the default appears twice on any of your credit files complain in writing to the lender/DCA (whoever owns/manages the debt- will say on your credit file). If the response to the complaint isn't to immediately rectify the issue then take it up with the Financial Ombudsan Service.I refuse to be afraid of the big bad wolf, spiders, or debt collection agencies; one of them's not real and the other two are powerless without my fear.
(Ok, one of them is powerless, spiders can be nasty.)
As of the last count I have cleared [STRIKE]23.16%[/STRIKE] 22.49% of my debt.

Thanks for that.
The letter I got from Barclaycard today actually reads that they served the default on me on the 12th May 2010. But due to an internal processing error it was never put onto my credit file. And that they are now going to add it but back dated to the 12th May 2010.
The letter is not an actual Default Notice. Just a letter explaining the above.
I've checked my file of correspondence from Barclaycard which goes back to 2006 and there is no Default Notice from last May. I've kept all letters from Barclaycard (and their DCA's) so unlikely to have lost or binned it.
I will be ordering my £2 credit files as I haven't checked them for a few years now.0
