Barclaycard not defaulting

I have been in a self administered debt management plan since last July paying £1 /month token payments to all my creditors. Most of my creditors defaulted me between Sept 2010 and Jan 2011 ( which it understandable and i accept this). However Barclaycard are refusing to put a default on my file and instead continue to mark a series of 6 missed payments on my file.

I have read the ICO guidelines on filing defaults and believe Barclaycard are wrong in what they are doing. Has anybody else had this experiance with Barclaycard or any other creditor and successfully challenged this?

    Hi smurfles

Just bumping this back to the top as Im having exactly the same problem as you are! They just mark my file as a late payment.

If you find a way to sort this or if anyone has any advice I would be grateful.

    Thanks

I'm still waiting for Halifax to default me on my overdraft, but tbh not even sure they treat them as the same as other debts so would welcome any advice you find out. Halifax have defaulted me on loan and credit card, MBNA on a credit card and RBS on a credit card - only waiting for this last one :o

Why exactly are you worried about the fact they have not defaulted you and are simply marking you as missed / late payments??

As the OP didn't reply to this, I was wondering if maybe it was the same reason as me - it basically gives me 6 years to get my !!!!!! together and get it all paid off and for once have a clear credit record?

  • Yes exactly, I have other defaults so i want them all to be defaulted at roughly the same time, so that in 6 years i will be in a position to remortgage and offer full & final settlements to all my creditors.

    Last payment in November 2009.
    Default registered in September 2010.
Took them 10 month to do it - not quite fair if it is not done and dusted between 3 and 6 months but there is no much you can do about this.

Barclaycard can be strange for this.

It's not unknown for them to take up to 18 months to default a file..

i have been on reduced payments for 3 yrs and they haven't defaulted me or sent it to their debt collector .. they just keep sending letters every 3 months telling me i will have to up my payments then claim they dont get reply from CAB who are dealing with my account

barclaycard and littlewoods have been my worst creditors so far

    Yep,

Even if you make no payment at all, they take ages to default...
