Tax refund... online??

Hiya, I rang up my local tax office a couple of weeks ago, who said I'm on wrong tax code and am owed a refund, but as it was nearly at the end of the financial year, it would probably be best to contact them again on the 6th April to sort it, but they updated my records so tax code will be correct for April.

So I'm going to ring them tomorrow morning, but I'm just wondering how long the refund normally takes as I've never had to do it before. Do they send you a letter breaking down what you are owed etc, or just send out a cheque? I'm guessing it's not a quick process??

Also, my friend said you can claim it back online and that it is quicker to do it this way, is this right??

You just call the ehlpline with your P60 details and they can process the refund providing all your income details for the 10/11 tax year are on their system.

As yet you can't apply online and if you get any emails purporting to come from HMRC telling you you can apply online then it's a scam.

Think of it this way - how on earth would HMRC have your email address.

How do I get a p60?? Do you know how long the refund takes to go through?

I did get the scam email months ago! Its quite obviously fake though, don't think many will fall for it!

Your employer will give you one.

I believe he has until the end of May, but don't quote me on the precise timescale.
