While waiting for GP, if you are at all 'blocked up' or think it's your sinuses, some Karvol capsules or similar in hot water, cover head with a towel, and breathe the fumes in, can help a bit. And are probably cheaper than Sudafed, with fewer side effects.

I've suffered from ear blockages/infections for as long as i can remember.

Sounds like you've got an infection. I'm not sure what your doc surgery is like, but when i think i've got an ear infection i always call up asap asking for an appointment as soon as possible (and usually get the appointment the same day.) When i last got an ear infection i do believe i was put on antibiotics.

Anyway, to help clear up blockages, i use "Earex." The blockage is usually cleared in a day, or two. Great stuff! Nothing else i've bought works!

I get ear infections all the time too - have one right now in fact

I can't use any of the drops as I am prone to perforations and there's always a danger. I'm on anti-biotics at the moment, in pain and completely deaf in my left ear :D

I use cotton wool - just a small piece popped in my ear - to soak up any yuk :p and a hot wheat pad to warm up the ear. It eases the pain if nothing else.

Try not to get it wet too - I use silicon ear plugs when I wash my hair. The silicon ones are the best as they form to your ear size and although you buy them in pairs you can use just one at a time - on either ear as they come as blobs of silicon - and just chuck them if you get an infection.

alternatively - for occasional use - my GP recommended coating a blob of cotton wool with petroleum jelly (vaseline) and that creates a seal so no water gets in :D

I hope it clears soon - definately go back to your GP (or a wlk-in centre) if it doesn't.

Definitely better than tablets as so many of them are non-drowsy can actually stop you sleeping. If you want to be really money saving ask your chemist for Menthol crystals. They will last you for years but be very careful to only use a small amount as it can be very strong.

I have those crystals from the chemist but havent used them as yet. My ear isnt as bad today, a little ticklely so maybe the drops are working. I do have a sore tongue today it is the side of sore ear and also my throat is tickely as well. I have spent the whole day outside so Im thinking I should maybe start taking my hayfever tablets soon.

you have my sympathy - I had blocked sinuses and a blocked ear following a freezing trip and flight from Paris last month, it took me about a week for my jaw, side of my head and my cheek to stop hurting. My ear was very sore for about 3 days, I had a wrapped hot water bottle against it to help with the pain at home.

    Hope you feel better soon.
