Aktiv Kapital problem

Hi

I have just had a letter from this company re a debt that really cant be possible as it appears to be in my maiden name (when i had no debt as I was too young!). I have contacted the company who i apparently owed the money to but they have no record of any such debt... (I still am checking one more avenue) ..I reckon its fraudulent and want to hit this hard and once so that it does not drag on ... any advice?

    Hi hazqua,

It sounds like a standard fishing expedition letter - Debt Collection Agencies often spam anyone with a name similar to that of someone who owes a debt in the hope that someone will be scared enough to pay it without asking any questions.

Anyway, just ignore the letter and don't bother getting in touch with them - if you do, they'll just think they have a 'bite' and send more junk. In particular, don't phone them, as they won't be interested in anything other than trying to get money out of you whether you really owe them or not. Far better to use the letter to line the cat litter tray and forget about it ;)

  • Thanks for the advice ... I checked the only thing that could have incurred a debt in my maiden name and that was confirmed as free and clear with no probs. So will ignore and see if I get any further correspondence.... :)

Also, how long ago did you marry? I ask because if it's over 6 years old (or 5 in Scotland) then even if you really DID owe it you're not obliged to pay.
I refuse to be afraid of the big bad wolf, spiders, or debt collection agencies; one of them's not real and the other two are powerless without my fear.
(Ok, one of them is powerless, spiders can be nasty.)

As of the last count I have cleared
    [STRIKE]23.16%[/STRIKE] 22.49% of my debt. :(
