By brother and his debt

Hiya guys, my brother has recently lost his job and due to this he has given all his creditors the big FU! He's avoiding them at every cost, and he's getting served with default notices every day, he's even had a caller come to the house. He has several debt collectors after him and as his brother I'm concerned.

Is there anything you guys would suggest? What is his best way out of this rut? I've seen the adverts on the tele about companies that you call and they contact the lenders, work out payments and it goes from there. Would this be the best way guys, and if so, what is the actual process? Have any of you ever used a specific company or a method. If somebody could reply to this post guys, it would really help. Don't let him go near any of those companies that advertise on TV - they charge a significant amount of money for their services and may not give the best advice.

I would suggest he contact CCCS, Payplan or Citizens Advice - links are at the top of this page. If he talks through his situation with them they will give him impartial advice on the best way to handle things. They also won't charge for their services. They are charities who are well used to dealing with all kinds of debt problems. I'm a CCCS client and I've found them to be invaluable. They provided me with literally life saving advice and support - at the time I couldn't see a way through the debt problems I was in - just wanted to crawl into a hole and never come out. Other posters will have good experiences of the other services as well.

It is good that you are there for your brother. The first step is the hardest - just help him through it.

You should also point out that not contacting them means they are all still stacking on interest and charges. If he contacts them and pays token £1 payments many will freeze the interest. It will save him money in the long run.

Thanks for your help guys. I'll tell him to phone the guys you mentioned. I don't think he was aware of the interest at all.
