Try this.
Ring your local council roads or waste dcepartment.
tell them you have just found X amount of tyres dumped by the road and, as a good citizen you have picked them up.
Could they come and collect them please or, failing that, you will put them back where you found them.

Thank you for stating the legal position, which seems pretty clear.
This is a very rural environment where much goes on that is never subject to scrutiny by the Environment Agency, nor any other official body. I also have neighbours who seem to start their bonfires with a burning tyre or two whenever they like!
While it is good to know what the law says, I'm more concerned with the possibility that I might cause harm. The legislation presumably exists because there is the possibility of environmental damage, so I won't be burying these tyres.0 -
I work in a tyre factory and there's no need to bury tyres or burn them to get rid of scrap tyres - some of ours are used as fuel at a cement works, some go for roads etc. I don't know where exactly but I do know we throw nothing out to the bin these days - everything is recycled or put to another use.
If the tyres are over 6 years old they're not fit to be used on a car.
I'd contact your local council's environmental dept. and ask them for advice - maybe they are already part of a scheme that recycles tyres.
Tyres are not just a bit of rubber from a tree with a bot of carbon black added, there are all sorts of other chemicals in there too, so I'd not bury them, tbh.Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

Hi Dave, where I work, I asked our Transport Manager if we could keep any tyres we picked up and re-use them for various things, planters in the depot being one, but he said that we have a contract with the people whosupply tyres for our fleet of vehicles to take them and they pay us for them too! Yay!
I think they extract the metal out of them and recycle it and the rubber.
Good luck with them anyway.

Yes, I'm sure if I had five hundred I might get interest from a recycler, but there's a transport element to consider. I'm often on the M5 in an empty van though, so I might see if there's anyone around Bristol that might be interested.0 -

I'm puzzled now, where do all the used tyres go if we aren't burying them in a landfill?
