Betting £1 a week is fine. As long as it stays at £1 per week. By the way you wrote it, and your financial situation, I feel you may start to "need" a big win to fix all your problems and may start betting more. Don't. It will make everything ten times worse.
  • RAS- I've already tried, the phones are already sold, they sold them theirselves because they are a bunch of *****!

pendulum;loanranger;ras - I've been betting £1 a week and when I lose I cry! Not really but I'm gutted, I've had a win before of £150 but had to split it with a friend as we went halves, my friend always goes on the roulette, there is NO WAY IN HELL I'd be paying over £1 a week. I hate wasting money to gamble, but I don't see the problem with £1 a week, tops!

RAS - As for dealing with the debt collectors, I've just no idea what to do about it, I will give my father a ring and see if he has any of the letters sent to me lieing about anywhere.
  • Also looking at my online banking, to date, from June 2011 I have paid £316.93 in bank charges alone, tomorrow it will go up another £6 and so on. Do you think it's worth going in and discussing claiming that money back?

I would go to the "friends" who have sold the phones (which belong to you) and beat the #### out of them if they do not repay you.

In which case, advise them that unless they pay you for the phones and contract, you will report them stolen and advise who stole them.

Dean - you've got your regular bills that you should try and stay on top of. You're then got 400 to put towards your debts. Can you try and make payment arrangments with people? perhaps the dentist, ask your dad if you can pay him back over 2/3 months - maybe offer him a bit of interest or perhaps you can offer to do some jobs for him - perhaps wash his car or do his turn at the dishes or cook or anything to show you're really grateful for his help?
It sounds like with a few frugal months and by having a proper budget for everything you can get back in control - it's going to be tough for a few months but if you get it nipped in the bud now then your credit rating will soon start to recover.

Can you cancel the so called friends contracts? phone the phone company - explain the problem to them - ie you've been a muppet and ask them to cease the contract immeadiately so your 'friends' can't run up anymore bills in your name. You might have to pay the standing charges until the end of the contract - ie buy yourself out but it will stop your friends taking the mick and running up massive bills in your name. As it is unlikely you will be able to buy yourself out in full you will need to set up a repayment plan with them for an amount you can afford each month.
You must write to them with the info though so you have proof of what was said and why.
I agree with whoever said you need to try and keep your money seperate from your friends and family - please stop borrowing money off different people and loaning people money as it is just getting you in a worse mess right now.
Have you got anything you can sell at all? ebay /car boot? can you do odd jobs in the neighbourhood - car washing, grass cutting, dog walking etc?

This is why we need to see the list of debts.

What you need to do is add them all together, work out how much you have to pay towards your debts and make pro-rata payments.

So if you owe £500, £1000 and £500, and have £100 to pay them, the first and last ones get £25 each and the second one gets £50.

  • I've tried reporting to the police but i have no proof!
ILW - I'd love to, but last time i ended up braking my 2 hands, and almost got sacked from my job. I'm a finance administrator/I.T Technician.
Dancingfairy - They cannot run up any more bills because its gone too much out of hand, they have froze the contract, and passed my debts onto debt collectors who are adding charges ontop for themselves. As for selling, I have literally nothing but a ps3. Dentist may be sorted - I filled out a form for NHS Dental Costs help, they sent me back a form which I am due to take in to the dentist next time i go and pay for my treatment! I am currently on 'peopleperhour.com' looking for some stuff to do!

Dean - honestly beating the what's it out of these so called friends is not the answer. You are likely to loose your job as you've said. Leave them. Seriously don't get a criminal record over them.
They'll get their comeupance and they sound pathetic to be honest. Sort out the debts in a responsible way and move on. You could always try taking out a court claim against them to frighten them into paying up but without any proof it's a bit risky and throwing an extra 50 pounds to take them to court (or whatever) might end up costing you and even if you do win it doesn't guarantee your money back.
