Hello, is anyone still with these people? I am currently in the process of sorting out my debts to leave them. Until then im still paying my monthly instalment.
They sent me a letter asking me to switch from standing order to direct debit? WHY? Why change the way they get paid? They still get the money every month!

with a standing order you are 100% in control.
with a direct debt the company is in control of how much they take and when.
rather suspicious that they want to change it. as you say they get paid anyway.
if you are about to cancel then switching to a direct debit is the LAST thing you want to do0 -
I knew it! What a sneaky underhand way of taking more money off me! Surely they cannot do that without asking me first. Is that not classed as theft?0

I don't think any company can do that without your consent, plus if you have internet banking you can always just cancel the DD
i would have though paying by DD is easier as if you change payments its less hassle for you, or i think so anyway, as i used to do it with my gas bill and changed that to DD and they always informed me of a change
if you are worried then i would not change over but as your leaving them anyway, it is probably the right thing to do, and keep the status quo0 -
depends what type of DD it is. I signed for one for something (think it internet security) without checking the small print & thinking I could just cancel online. Found out later it was a DD that could only be cancelled by the other side, it was even paid out on a CC I no longer used. When I called the card company they said they were obliged to pay it because of the type of DD it was.
Standing order is much better.Tallyhoh! Stopped Smoking October 2000. Saved £29382.50 so far!0 -
