A new Debt Free Wannabee - Introduction

Hi all,

I'm new here, so sorry if I've missed a newcomers intro thread.

I think I've had my light-bulb moment, but am still trying to put together the budget and determine where everything's going.

One of the things I do notice as a recurring theme to my debts is the constant attempts to get out of debt, but then new debts come along and there's simply insufficient funds to service them. E.g. I cover approx 22000miles per year but strangely never seem to budget for servicing costs and tyres for the car. So when they come along at x-hundred pounds, they go on the credit card and it all starts over.

I may be answering my own question here, but I guess that the key is working out a proper budget and figuring out what's left to service the debts. I'm moving credit card debts around on interest free rates whilst I try and pay them off and it's coming along slowly, but there's always something else... The boiler, the car breaks down, ... What sort of figures do you put aside for the unexpected?

Thanks and I look forward to contributing...

Welcome, an SOA is a good thing http://www.makesenseofcards.com/soacalc.html - work out a proper budget.

It may pay to spend a bit of time with the old credit card statements or even the garage bills, tot it up and then divide by 12 to avoid future shocks.

    welcome aboard.

It's not easy and took me a while to get into the swing of it. post up an SOA as has already been said. calculate what you spend on expenses for the year and try to split them up into amounts for car, insurances etc and set a monthly or weekly budget to put away for the expenses.

it doesn't always wirk if your anything like ma and I sometimes have to borrow from one pot to put in another and vice versa but it certainly gets easier the more you do it.

Remember to budget for birthdays, christmas etc I used to not include these and that was why I used to find it really difficult to stay within budget.

Good luck I am sure you will get plenty more advice from people with greater experience than me.
