Have just made a huge quiche (flan dish from charity shop for a pound and saw one half the size at about £8 in a shop) from a few bacon rashers, half a tomato, one red onion, grated cheese and four eggs.
Turned out really tasty. DH is taking me to Lidl tomorrow as they have ten good quality toilet rolls at half price so we are going to stock up as much as we can. Defrosted a half price chicken for tomorrow and have yellow stickered salmon fillets that I just cooked for tomorrow as well.
DH just come home so going to dish up.
See you all later."This site is addictive!"

Haribo - what a lovely gesture from your client. Enjoy the 'fruits' of your labour - it was well deserved.
I'll let you know how we get on with the WB - never had/used one before & DH has just to finish off the flue pipe outside & then the Building inspector has to call. Dont know if he just wants to have a look or if he'll want us to fire it up (that'll be intersting if he does!) DH is now playing with his new toy - a chainsaw (reduced in Argos) so he's a happy bunny!
Ceridwen - love that you are a Guerilla Gardener. I hav'nt sown veg but I have been known to spread flower seeds along motorway verges on occasions........!Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
Tiny rant
Having run out of all other things edible for brekkie we're left with the weetabix, but no milk. So I tried making rice milk to go on it.
I now have a jug of what looks like fake semen in my fridge. I don't think hubby will be happy with it on his cereal.

I did 3 500ml jars of brined green beans and it took only minutes to do, so one for the future. I just finished making the wholegrain mustard and it is very nice too. I was on the allotment for quite a while this pm, I was getting cabin fever in here. Cage taken off onions and packed away, now watching onions like a hawk as white rot can strike when the weather gets warm, will lift as soon as possible. One full 3/4 cu m of compost taken out and laid around fruit and rhubarb and other compost cage turned into the empty one, third one was turned into the middle one so all done now until autumn when we will be able to move another 2 cages.
I was thinking that I should be stick thin with all this activity
jamanda, :rotfl:I will definitely bear that in mind, yes the onions are way heavier than little shallots0 -
I would like a crockpot to make fermented veg, I remember those pots. I have a rumtopf (can`t spell it) and may well make preserved fruits in kirsch as the book recommends. I need a costco trip but the motorway will be hellish this weekend
I can definitely recommend the fruits in the rumtopf. I do some with rum every year. We have a tradition that the first sampling of fruit rum goes into some (cheapish) fizzy wine on Christmas eve to make a Kir Royale for when we get back from Church, then we use the fruit with ice cream for puddings over the Christmas holidays and finally my parents get to take a bottle of the fruity rum home with them.
Have a good weekend everyone0 -
Haribo - the gift from your client - despite your slow payers at least you know that some clients think you/your husband are great. Congrats :T
Ceridwen - I'm not a geologist but I suspect limestone and chalk would dissolve/crumble and add a certain unwanted "piquancy" :rotfl: As for flint, perhaps the fact that it used to be flaked to make blades would make it dangerous to boil for 15 minutes, but that's a complete guess.
Ginnyknit - I've had the initial mistake thingy as well, although it was a long time ago. My mum's first initial is the same as mine and we used the same bank. Like you I eventually changed my account to use my middle initial as well as my first.
Softstuff - thanks for the chickpea curry recipe, I've got all the ingredients so that's definitely going on the plan for next week. The bit about having "spares" in the freezer if OH doesn't want last night's leftovers is easily sorted by cooking a standard recipe for 4 and freezing 2 portions. Or in my case cooking for 4 and freezing 3 portions - until I get to the stage where I can go 2 weeks eating what I call "heat and eat" meals from the freezer - like ready meals but nicer :rotfl:
Good foraging day today - although I've been attempting to ignore the references to autumn I did check my favourite mushrooming spot today - result = 700g of field mushrooms. I'll be going back on a regular basis from now on as I think field mushrooms are vastly superior taste wise from supermarket ones. They take a bit of cleaning/prepping but are worth the effort. I've got one jar left of last year's dehydrated ones so am really pleased "autumn" is here"Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass...it's about learning how to dance in the rain." ~ Vivian Greene0 -
I went to Asda this evening looking for 20p tomatoes, but our branch didn't have any
HOWEVER, I obviously got there at an optimum time, because there was a jolly lady marking down the mark-downs: I got 3 Oatilicious loaves for 30p each; 2 packs of 6 quarter pounders marked down from £3 each to £1; 2 packs of duck at £2 each AND their sugar was £1.22 for a 2-kilo pack or 61p per kilo - by far the cheapest I've seen it for ages.
I don't normally shop in Asda but it did seem MUCH cheaper than Tesco's - or am I imagining things?0 -
Had a good day today - DH took HH to the vet for a check up on her eye and she got the all-clear. Then he got a call offering him a job interview:j but it's too far to commute so he would have to get lodgings
but we'll worry about that if he gets an offer.
There's a festival this weekend near to the town where I work so I was in two minds whether to go to Mr Ts on the way home. I decided to go if only for the people watching! I went to a checkout behind a group of 3 young men who were buying everything from a tent to beer and their bill came to £260:eek: The checkout lady asked if they had a clubcard and they said no. I said 'I do' and handed mine over :j Ooh also saw a very cool young man with a shopping trolly so they must be OK:rotfl:
Going to try and get to lid1 tomorrow and get some more Branst0n beans (4 for 99p).
Had some other things to say but can't remember now!
Have a good weekend everyone. They'll ask me how I got her I'll say
I saved my money

Lucky you. We never get field mushrooms up here. Plenty of ceps and chanterelles but I love field mushrooms.
Thank you all for your kind words re the hamper.
I appear to have worn OH out on his day off as he is snoozing beside me on the sofa. :rotfl:
ETA ChocClare I definitely find Asda cheaper but my nearest one is 100 miles away.0 -
Have been on holiday this week, but very O/S and had friends round rather than eating out! Enjoyed this as much-it's the contact with friends that's important:D
Not normally a fan of fizzy drinks, but I was looking at some multi-vitamin effervescent tablets in Lidls the other day and bought a tube so I could have a fruity.fizzy drink once a day at break-time and have a few extra vitamins at the same time.Much cheaper than tins of cola etc and handy to carry.
Had parsley patties for tea-VERY cheap- and the recipe I fiddled about with from a friend(.? original source) I made breadcrumbs from 2 outside slices bread g,rated a small bit of cheese chopped up a few nuts, grated a bit of lemon peel, added salt and pepper, about half a raw egg to mix together, and a cup of finely chopped parsley.Make into patty shapes and fry until brown,I fried with a slice of bacon and a squirt of spray oil to cut down on fat and a couple of aged mushrooms.
Weather autumnal most of the week so have been making cards for presents, making and freezing soup, and going for walks with my sister's dog while dodging the rain'and hopefully see the Harry Potter film tomorrow.
Hope everyone has a pleasant weekend-positive thoughts to all:AWe are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars.Oscar Wilde xxx:A0
