Stiltwalker- my first three all grew out of the moses basket really quickly and I was so sad and then my DD arrived and was so tiny for so long she was still in her basket at six months - I began to hate the sight of the thing, especailly when she was admitted to hospital(for the second time) and wouldnt sleep in the cot because it wasnt a basket - the doctor was determined she wouldnt get any special treatment second time round (first time they spent ages making the cot smaller and making it feel basket like) - until four hours of her screaming blue murder when he marched over and made all the necessary adjustments she went straight in and slept for six hours. I swear he must have hated me - took me months converting her to the cot and I still had to drape the sides etc - it made me realise much better to get them into a cot sooner than later!! :)

    Thanks
So I am just a tub of lard:eek: I thought my name was a clever use of some of letters from my middle name. Hint I was born at Christmas.

I picked a massive head of red cabbage today and am deciding what to do with it. It is over 4.5 lbs so will do 2 methods, probably a german spiced cabbage to freeze in portions plus a jar or 2 of pickled cabbage. Does anyone know how long I can keep it (the cabbage) before use? It is very nice and clean and tightly compacted. I have been reading about pickling and luckily had already placed a waitrose order for tomorrow so added on some pickling vinegar. Jam jar shop will be sending me 5L containers of other vinegars and I have whole spices and muslin bags. I have been reading that spices should be infused for 1-2 months or boiled but I remember the strong acetic acid smell when boiling, so I think boiling dilutes the vinegar. I`ll have to do a short cut on this cabbage I think but I`ll be infusing one of the containers ready for the next lot. Oh this thinking in advance is hard, I`ll have to keep a diary for next year

I am also thinking ahead for the tomatoes as there are signs of ripening on some of the big ones. Have I got enough jars? Am I clear about the preserving processes? Have I got cool dark space for storage? I know I have new kilner jars plus recycled jars and I ordered a stack of 8oz jars for chutneys etc I see that there are 4 marrows waiting in the wings on the allotment, only 4-6 inches today but they`ll be fully grown by next week. From one plant, amazing value really. The elderberries won`t be long ripening now so fermenting bucket ready plus yeast, nutrient etc

It`ll all be over by september, phew. Time for a break after that. Lol, I know I am making my own work but life is never boring and it is so satisfying

Does someone need a rolling pin? in the old days my mum and I used a milk bottle so any bottle will work oh I just saw that you did that mardatha. A cucumber?

I think i know - I was born at Christmas too, and it's my middle name. ;) I've never known anyone else have that name for that reason? People tend to go with Holly or Noelle.

Been to Waitrose LOADS of whoopsies. :T

Mardatha use a tall glass to roll out pastry or a tin from your cupboard wrapped in foil.
CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J

With an e--too posh for me. Using Holly or Noelle probably depends on which part of UK you were born in.

Sorry Kittie, no lazing around in September - pickles, marmalade, jam (from foraged blackberries) christmas cake, presents to craft :rotfl: maybe you can have the second of Jan off!

I can just see Mardatha stood in here kitchen looking round at likely objects to use as a rolling pin then RV walks past and a lightbulb shows above her head and she shouts eureka!!!!

OH has gone out on the town :beer: with his old mates from cricket and I am fully expecting him back by 10pm. He can't drink, stand around or do a pub crawl so it may well be a short night. Hopefully he won't be too fed up when he gets back.

Still hunting for sewing machine needles, no luck so far :o am finding more and more things I can run up as I am hunting too!
