Popped to the supermarket fairly early but still after 9 am and it was HEAVING. Couldn't understand it at first then I saw a huge number of kids of school age and realised their mums had got them at home for the day and were all taking advantage of the day to get their shopping done - all at the same time. Retired bruised on the ankles from some budding racing drivers practising on Morrison's trolleys. It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

Please may I be added to the hugs list? Had a really bad week.
1. DH took HH (Hell Hound) to the park and kicked a pine cone for her to chase. HH looked around and got it smack in the eye. He took her straight to the vet and got eye drops, eye cream, anti-inflamatory pills and a bill for £90
2. The car started making a horrible noise so took it to the garage and it needed rear break pads and discs £165
3. DD left the garage freezer door open and we lost the lot except for cakes and breadHowever I re-froze the fruit and veg - does anyone know if it will be OK? Someone at work said that it goes bitter.
4. We've been told that next week we'll find out how many redundancies are being made at work.
I think that's all for now!
Another 'does anyone know' question - how long does black treacle last once it's opened? When I was looking for condensed milk for Kimitatsu's breakfast bars (found some and only 3 months out of date) I found a jar of ginger (only 1 month OOD) so thought I'd make Delia's ginger cake. But the treacle is probably 2 or 3 years old and I daren't open the lid!
Off to find some Nur0fen and something for tea now. They'll ask me how I got her I'll say
I saved my money

:grouphug: Hug for you Josie xx
TBH I know it sounds minging but it keeps pretty much forever. My mum used the same tin for about 10 years when we were kids - as long as it's not actively mouldy it'll be fine - after all, sugar is a preservative!
Incidentally, if it's a Lyle's tin, have you ever looked closely at that lion? Most people think it's a cute little lion but it's actually a decomposing carcass. Nice, eh?
Just had a call from the docs'. When I was there on Monday I mentioned I hadn't had my test results back for some hospital tests I had a while back (radioactive absorption thingies) but that I assumed no news was good news. They've called me and asked me to come in tomorrow to discuss the tests. Bit worried as surely if they were clear there'd be nothing to discuss?0 -
Haribo - we write dates and who was there alongside handwritten recipes and also in recipe books. It's a fun reminder to look back and see comments. Ticks and stars are good but sometimes recipe tweaks are handy too as I'd often forget otherwise. Loving the idea of recipe books for your kids.
Just had frugal tea. HM soup and then arrabiatta with Te$co cheapie penne, bought when it was 9p a pack, and half a pack of their Italian passatta which is really rich. made it spicy and we had a big salad with it. I've just had a chunk of Galaxy from the freezer for pud. Very necessary you know;).
Students - I was one and was well behaved! So were my kids!

Josiejump - sending hugs. Some weeks never seem to end do they?
Larumbelle - my GP has stopped giving any results over the phone, so it may just be a case of giving you the peace of mind that they are all clear as you have waited so long. GPs often have peculiar ways of looking at things and dont seem to realise how much they can panic a patient when they are actually trying to help.
Rant alert !! I am furious today - I popped into Ikea to look at sale items - many of which had never been in stock in the first place, picked up a few bits (new duvet for DS7 who ruined yet another this week) and paid, bill came to £6 yet the machine took £11 from my card, I promptly pointed out the error to teh assistant (who didnt assist) who sent me to customer services, there I sit in a queue while only one staff member works - three others stood around, then when I finally get seen I get no apology just a "we'll pop it back onto your card!" which I pointed out menat I was out of pocket while I waited. Then another staff mamber opened his booth and a couple walk over with the same problem, to which the guy replies - yes we know theres a till glitch at the moment.
I walked across and joined the couple who were also rather upset and the staff were completely unrepentant - there argument was that any customer that noticed could wait in the queue and get their money back. My point being that if they know there is an error at the tills and still keep serving surely thats wrong?? I suggested that even a sign warning customers was something but he refused. He reckons they cant adjust their tills till they close so it is tough for anyone in the meantime.
On a much more positive note - we had another appointment for DS13 today and we have succeeded in getting them to agree that he is likely to be ASD and do a formal diagnosis - it was so relieving to sit and be told that his behaviour is not our fault (which the ed psych has continued to say) and that it is not "normal". She said having worked with many ASD teenagers and adults he is displaying all the classic signs. That means that once he has a diagnosis school will have to do more for him (praying they will allow him to sit his GCSEs) and that we will get help in learning to manage him. Additionally we have been told we should apply for DLA for him to support all his additional needs - that would mean we could employ a tutor to assist with his school work and get him some activities where his condition will be worked with. The relief is unbelievable - even my parents dont fully get it - so many times they tell me he is just being a teenage boy - but I have known it was so much more.
Got my wedding dress out today to use the underskirt for DD16 prom dress - DD5 is upset that none of the dresses fit her yet!! I now will need to adjust the prom dress for length, am planning on sitting and hand stitching it, but can see it taking a while.0 -
Hi Josie
Crap always brings a friend along doesn't it - it's never just the one thingAt least HH's eye doesn't appear to be permanently damaged. And whilst getting the brakes fixed costs lots it is more important that you can stop the car than that you can start it!
Larumbelle - is this part of an ongoing series of tests? Maybe they've eliminated one thing and want to discuss what might be done next? Know what you mean about them not letting you know - I've always had to ring them to get the info. Mind you, that's not as bad as when I went about a small matter and saw a locum doctor. When we'd cleared up what I needed he asked me how I was doing after the op for stomach cancer!!! Someone else's notes had been written onto mine, and worse, were presumably missing from theirs. It was in the days when notes were on cards - hopefully it would be a bit harder to make the same mistake now."Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass...it's about learning how to dance in the rain." ~ Vivian Greene0 -
Laurmbelle - Just had a look - that's gross! If your test's were anything to worry about I'm sure they would have contacted you immediately.
lizzyb1812 - I went into hospital for waterworks investigations and was asked why I wanted a termination - I nearly jumped of the trolley and ran home! They'll ask me how I got her I'll say
I saved my money

I would like to reassure you all that unfortunately Drs notes are still as hopeless as ever. Apparently I didnt get rushed into hospital at the beginning of the year, nor did I stay in or have any kind or surgery, nor did I have to threaten with an official complaint before my Dr decided to chase for the results of the lumpectomy. Never had this treatment with my old Dr!0

Kidkat I would have been temted to call the police or at the very least stand at the checkout warning people. I wonder how many people did not notice?0

They are really keen on the cooking but I need to put my patient hat on.
For a few years I have been writing in a cooking journal for each of them, adding recipes they each particularly like and illustrating and decorating it and jotting down some memories. We decided recently that they should also add to the book while they are young, rather than it just be something they inherit when I'm dead and gone. My thinking is that it will be even more special if it is something we work on all together. So that will be our major project for wet days I think. It's very important to me as my Mum died when I was very young and if it hadn't been for my big sister alot of her recipes would have died with her.
that brought a little tear to my eye :A Really lovely ideaA little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men
