Oh btw (I'll shut up in a minute)

    Butter in Kenwood:

    Put cream in Kenwood
    Turn on
It will go stiff, like whipped cream
    Don't stop
    It will start to curdle
    Keep going
You will start to see yellow bits and you will suddenly get like milk as well
TURN SPEED DOWN OR THIS WILL GO ALL OVER YOUR KITCHEN

As soon as you see yellow bits, you can slow down or stop. Squeeze together and squeeze and squeeze.
Put yellow bits in a sieve. Run under cold tap, squeeze with your hands, rinse, squeeze, rinse, squeeze until no more "milk" comes out.

Use the whey for scones. Pat the butter with butterpats  or two spatulas. Add salt and mix in if you like. Wrap in greaseproof paper.

That is all there is to it. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise!
Hi which sort of cream would you use?

Has to be double - not the extra thick kind - but buy it on special offer. A pint makes about half a pound.

..and while we are talking about houses:

    SAMMYKAYE

Did your resident "babysitter" move with you to your new house? I have wondered at intervals what happened about her - isnt her name Valerie I seem to remember? - ie the woman who used to live in your flat and subsequently died, but came back visiting your children.

Has she come with you? Was there any "farewell" to her if she stayed behind? Any idea how she is doing?

    ******************************

I've done a little more investigating re the house I am wondering about and still undecided re whether to if possible - but have established that I am unlikely to be able to "play the Locals card" there:cool: (as I'm in a part of the country where sometimes Locals favour other Locals for things - ie me for instance:D). No - no go there then on that....no "locals discount" to be had. Oh well - cannae complain about that really - as I "mix and match" freely with locals and incomers...its an area where we have a lot of both...

Its really bugging me - i keep being logged out today

Am really feeling more up today - have sold more stuff on ebay - which obviously means money - but more importantly it means less stuff in the house:j:j:j

dad is arriving tomorrow to tackle some jobs - he has said to make a priority list but there is so much I cant decide:D maybe I should just hold him hostage till its all done:rotfl:

Have also worked out that if we buy a new wall cupboard for the utility room (can buy a cheap one) then that will free up a large cupboard in the kitchen which will mean I dont need to race to buy extra units for the kitchen - this is a relief cos I priced up one wall cupboard yesterady and it came close to £500 to buy something that nearly matched what is here  goodness knows how much the whole kitchen must have cost.

Washing is slowly coming back under control and I believe there is now only ten loads left - I can actually see the bathroom floor now.
Although the ironing is now overflowing.

DD16 prom dress has arrived too - she was going to use my wedding dress but it needed too much alteration so thanks to all the suggestions on here we ordered from ebay - made to measure, the dress is stunning- however it is almost identical to the dress worn at the family wedding a couple of weeks ago - OOPS, apparently the bride paid almost £1000 at a local dress shop whereas DD dress cost £80 and fits a whole lot better - so a huge thanks to everyone who suggested ebay. Now we just need to accessorise and buy shoes. :)

FTM - your two look absolutely beautiful.

Have done fathers day on the cheap this year - bought my dad a car cooler thingy and an amazon voucher and bought OH a CD (and a skip!!) he wont be pleased but as the skip was required due to his refusal to throw anything away and his refusal to deal with the stuff I made an executive decision top use the money I would have used to put towards a skip last week (best fathers day present ever), I have printed a nice picture of it empty (couldnt show him it full he would see what I have thrown away!!). :rotfl:

I was only thinking this morning that I would need to look back at the butter making instructions and I see they have been posted again - you are all obvioulsy channelling my thoughts:D

As for houses - we first rented a house that fit our requirements but I had a bad feeling about - OH insisted we take it as I had no concrete reason not too, we left 6 months later having been terrorised by the neighbour who eventually attacked me and my dad and caused serious injuries - we were then moved to a place of safety. My theory now is that if I dont feel right about something I wont do it.

Aw when you're having an off day, feel like a dirty dish rag and look like you've been dragged through a hedge backwards (talking about me Kittie not you ;) ) and see people all poshed up it's bound to get you down. It could have been any group in society, it just so happened to be ladies at the races :);)

What a sensible way of looking at it. I suppose we all fee la bit envious of others at times.

For me its not Ascot though I really wouldnt enjoy it,Now a flower Show or a Craft event Oh yes please, pretty please.

    Hi all.me again..jeepers you lot chat..nevermind i love it..
Well have been very frugal moneywise..got some left over from paying all my bills and so thats going in a jar for a treat for all the family..not sure what yet..

I did a value shop on Mr T..as suggested by another poster..i got 99 items for £23.61..all stock up stuff and extras that i'm putting away for emergencies..hubby went to li*l yesterday and got some of their meat that was on offer..so thats been put in freezer..

We walked around our house this morning and did a check list of things still to be done before winter gets here..6 jobs and none of them big or expensive..so will get on with them in the next few weeks...
I need to put up a shelf i found in the back shed to store my squashes and pumpkins for winter..

As for all the talk about second hand furniture..i can look at my home with pride..it might be pre-loved but i like to think that who ever had it first would rest easy knowing that it is being looked after and being appreciated..nearly all our bits have stories behind them..or were given to us by friends who then passed away..i like to think that while i have it they will always be remembered. One the subject of houses..the place we lived before we moved here was lovely..biggish house and bloody massive garden..however the lady that lived there never let anyone in to repair or upgrade it..as a result it was very dilapidated and needed work doing on it...saying that it was a lovely house and very warm all the time..it would have a lovely beeswax smell and yet i never used it back then..i knew it was haunted by her but she never did us any harm..she would play games though..my tea spoons would go missing..i would search high and low for them..not a trace of them ..only to get up the next day and find them all lined up on the kitchen counter..my eldest dd used to say that an old lady would sit on her bed at night and smile at her..when we asked her what she looked like..she described her to a tee..yet she was only 2and a bit..scary nah...

    right have to go..
    love

make that a food event in my case - definite frustrated foodie here. Where I gulp a bit is in relation to peeps who were brought up on regular trips to the Continent and found all sortsa foods and incorporated them into the repertoire - whereas I've had to taste/experiment madly since I grew up making up for lost time....

Think I must be doing pretty well though - as very often folks don't know what summat is or what to do with it - but I'll have tried it/decided if I like it and figured out various things to do with it:)

I wouldnae like Ascot anyway - its to do with horseracing:eek: - so NOT my sorta "territory" anyways.....

ChocClare: Lovely post about your house/change of lifestyle. And it's very useful to know that a pint of double cream will yield half a pound of butter - so a pint for less than £1 gives cheaper than store bought butter.

Redlady: Soft bread and homemade butter - I am SO jealous. Good tip about the milk in the bread.

Took the dog for a walk and a swim this morning and walked back via the Co-op - got 16 yellow-stickered sausages and 14 chicken drumsticks and being MS have cooked them all at once in the oven. It took quite a bit longer than if I'd cooked just a few but way less time than cooking them at each individual meal. They will be frozen when cool - I'll take the skins off and bone the chicken and freeze it as meat rather than drumsticks. There should be enough bones and skin to make enough stock to make a couple of portions of soup as well.

We've had a lot of rain recently so the ground was ready for some seeds so put parsnips and carrots in yesterday. And I've just picked the tail end of the strawberries - there are a few more ripening but the plants are starting to sprout runners so I don't expect much more fruit production. Will have to get some small pots filled to peg the runners into.

Righto - chicken processing for me now.

Hope you're all having a happy Father's Day

.......she's just made me get down on bended knee and scrub the kitchen and bathroom floors (different cloths and buckets, I hasten to add).

:D You may like to know that the 1851 going rate for a maid-of-all-work was £9-£14 when no extra allowance made for tea, sugar and beer or £7 10 s-£11 with allowances. PER YEAR, London rates......

And we think we've got problems.
