Jediteacher - did you know about the SMA Staydown baby milk ?

My DD had a baby 14 months ago and couldn`t keep his milk down. Got stuff from the Dr to put in the bottle of milk to thicken it but that didn`t work. Happened to be in Tes** and saw the Staydown (for babies with significant reflux) so gave it a whirl. MAGIC.

Still had the raised bed end etc but the milk was brilliant, would recommend trying it.
No, I dont work for the babymilk company - I`m just a happy grandma passing on some info.

OK, back to lurkyland till next time.

Many thanks for this information. I did not know about this milk even though my son is on SMA gold. I will have a look in the supermarket mentioned.

    Rant alert!

Old style to the max now! Just received a letter informing me I was overpaid back in February when I left my job and would I please like to repay £600+ within 14 days. Not even been in work for a full month yet and that's basically a months wage gone. I think I'm most annoyed that I don't have a leg to stand on, I was paid for work I didn't do so I must pay it back. Unfortunately for them I haven't got it. Am mad at myself too because I did wonder if it was right that I was still getting paid but I'd been told that my leaving had been processed so I knew they knew I had left and therefore assumed it must be right. Big mistake that was.

Shall be on this thread like a maniac from now on :(

My daughter handed in her notice to Mothercare about 18 months ago, then left....about 2 months later she got a letter saying that they'd overpaid her!! Working it out, they hadn't overpaid, but they insisted they had and was going to take her to court....my daughter didn't pay, and nothing happened at all.

So try not to worry, go see citizens advice or a solicitor (first advice session is usually free).

I have windfarns all round me and I hardly notice any noise. I think its just a lot of people fussing. They're amazing things to watch, too. Not sure how many bats you would get flying around on hilltops and open moors lol. Don't think bats do that?
TY to the person who gave me the Biggar wholefoods shop, I was in there once and had forgotten about them :)

I am glad I am not the only one who finds wind turbines fascinating. There are some near us and you can actually go inside one and have a look at it from the inside.

I have a small amount (100ml) of sour cream to use up. I make a fab cinnamon and raisin cake from the Hummingbird Cake book which uses sour cream however I've already made 2 this week to freeze so was thinking I could use it in something else.

Does anyone know of any cake recipes using sour cream that I could try to use it up?

If push comes to shove I'll just make another cinnamon and raisin cake and freeze it too - I don't want to waste it and the lunches/dinners are planned for the week.

oh and another question - my mother has an ice cream maker which she doesn't use much and has offered it to me. Does anyone have a view - whilst I'm tempted I do think it could end up being expensive and we will eat more ice cream than usual.

7weekwonder, I too am about to suffer at the hands of Scottish power- so I am going to war, I will attempt like you to save 12%. So off with all those lights, in bed by 10 with just the lamp on, only wash at economy 7 time like I used to. The thing is since the kids left I have so little washing I do it any time I am passing - but no more :idea: couldn't find the ninja emoticon but thought the lightbulb moment apt :rotfl: right off to bed it is ....and scheme...and plan.....

  • Can't think of anything for the sour cream off the top of my head, just wanted to ask how you find the Hummingbird book?
I was given a birthday card with a hummingbird recipe on (strawberry cheesecake cupcakes) which I loved. Have been wondering whether to add the book to my already-too-long Amaz0n wish-list in the hope that Santa might read it.

I got the book as a gift from a friend who in turn had received it in a gift and didn't want it. To be honest I would say it's at least 60% cupcakes which, although I like them, I'm not sure I would buy the book for.
It does have some other nice recipes like the raisin and cinnamon cake (in a loaf tin), the coconut jam bars and the courgette, walnut and cinnamon layer cake. You can tell I like cinnamon.:D

Don't get me wrong, it's a lovely book however I suspect in a few months (certainly in the run up to Christmas) there will be plenty appearing on ebay virtually unused.

Your post has given me an idea though - I might photocopy some pages and pop them in with birthday cards in future. I'd like that if someone did it for me

No idea I am afraid scottishminnie!..but your cake sounds very nice!

Talking of stock piling I have had a huge shop from mr s delivered today ...so much that a lot is going to be sat on my worktops for a while. All I should need to buy for the next 5 to 6 weeks is fresh milk and fruit/veg! I decided to try some tomato juice( as I have never had any despite my 37 yrs!) and I quite like it. Its only 34p a carton too so makes a nice change from coffee and is helping me in my quest to have a healthier diet! I looked up the benefits of drinking it and its amazing stuff.
I have also got several tins of sardines /pilchards in tomato sauce as we love them on toast but am trying to find other things to do with them and would be very grateful for any ideas that don involve bread!I have had a look at the recipes but cant find anything.....
I have some lovely lettuce in my garden now but my cucumber plants have fallen victim to my cat and my french beans are looking a bit pathetic...its a good job I a good stock of frozen veg!
Am very annoyed about the fuel news like many others..only have gas central heating as I have no fire/chimney. The other problem I have is that the radiator-which is the only heat source in the lounge -is right up under the windowsill which makes tucking curtains behind a real faff ,so I need to see if I can find some warmer ones that arent too thick. This will also mean putting up a new pole in my rubbish plasterboard walls (which should be fun :( ) so more expense! But I figure if I get this sorted now in summer it should be cheaper.....will scour fleabay!

Someone mentioned a few pages back about having to put £45 pw in a meter to fund their old gas fire...sorry if this has already been suggested to you but could you afford to get a halogen heater? They are cheaper to run than that so it maybe something to look at. I used one when our boiler froze over winter and it was toasty warm.
JAN GC- £155.77 out of £200:D FEB GC £197.31 out of £180:o. MARCH GC - out of £200

American pancakes are yummy, freeze well and make a good breakfast. These ones also use bananas, but you don't need to do so. You can freeze, then reheat in the microwave for a few seconds.

I got an icecream maker off freecycle last year; the lovely tandraig very kindly sent me instructions on how to use it, and in last month's Home Farmer there were all sorts of recipes. I really MUST use it! The only problem I can see is that you have to freeze the bowl for ?8 hours. So I'll have to get myself organised and just stick the blasted thing in the freezer - that way, I won't get all psyched up about making icecream and then think, oh blast, I can't do it till tomorrow. Tandraig said she left hers in the freezer filled up with stuff.

Someone ask me tomorrow if I've put it in the freezer yet - it'll have to go in the freezer in the garage and I can't be bothered to go out there now.
