I think the bears should read this. Instead of dreaming house prices will crash start saving.

what ridiculous tips. this assumes that living with parents is an option (it's not for many whose parents live overseas or have no spare accommodation or just aren't willing to allow it). it also assumes you own a car worth 6k - most people don't. and then the second job - many employers won't allow this. majority of people are also non smoking. generally a very poor article. Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0 -
Looks like I can make £6K by selling my second car. What a result! I didn't even know I had a first car, let alone a second one.
For a second job maybe I could ask msn if they have any lazy journalism positions available.0 -
If you want to come up with a significant sum of money, you're going to need to make significant lifestyle sacrifices.0

So, what we have is an article full of assumptions, two of the assumptions being those who are struggling to rent and save should quit one of their THREE foreign holidays, and sell the second car.
Brilliant. Thanks einstein.
Can I suggest it's unlikely the people struggling to rent and save will actually have either of those?! Highly rude of me to point that out, but still.0 -

Hmmmm, I know a number of people living at home or renting that regularly go on a holiday numberous times a year.
Far more than I did when I was renting:wall:
What we've got here is....... failure to communicate.

There's nothing wrong with dreaming of house price falls Sibley(?). It's possible to both dream of house price falls and save.
I appreciate the sentiment, (where possible) non-homeowners should cut costs and make savings to improve there chances of home ownership.0 -

Indeed.
I know a number of people who don't.
More to the point, most of them I know who DO do what you are talking about, are not even ready to buy a property. Do you know many who you talk about who are over 25?
Or are you talking 18-25 year olds who are still living with their parents and enjoying their lives.....and I say good luck to them while they can.0 -
Been trying to convince the GF to move in with my Dad so we can save a bit extra (need another £8k to get through the 250k stamp duty barrier). Yeah right!
I get enough stick for having banned holidays for the last two years0 -

I could in theory go and buy my first home tomorrow due to all the saving i have done, but why would i do that when the market is falling and i can buy a home for a lot less money thus getting a smaller mortgage in the process.
And you already know my views on buying a home that a good HONEST hardworking family has lost:)0 -
