    Any debt joint names will fall to you if he goes bankrupt, anything in his name only will be written off.

    On the other hand - going bankrupt would make it very difficult for your husband to get credit for a long time (6 years to drop off credit file or pos longer if he gets a bankrupcy order), not necessarily a bad thing in the circumstances...
    Only after the last tree has been cut down,
    Only after the last river has been poisoned,
    Only after the last fish has been caught,
    Only then will you find that money cannot be eaten
