Salary Negotiations

Hi,

I applied for a job which said 'Salary Negotiable'. Anyway I had an interview and it went well and have been invited back for a second interview.

I asked about the salary range in an email when confirming attendance at second interview. I got a response that the job is dependant on the relevant experience and asked what salary range I was looking for.

I'm not sure how to respond to the email and would not like to jump the gun and give a figure I'm expecting by either going in too high or selling myself short. I'm also unsure of targets I'm expected to hit and possible bonus payments. Basically I want them to specify a salary scale.

How do you think I respond to the email?

I'm thinking something along the lines of "it depends on the expected targets and bonus structure on hitting those targets, blah blah can you tell me on the expected salary" :rotfl:

Any help would be appreciated...

I would have left it to interview, but as they have now asked, then yes a simple statement justifying what you want and expect, backed up by your experience and market for your expertise etc will have to suffice..

Does the type of work you are doing allow for lots of opportunities to earn bonuses etc. I.e. are you in sales?

If it were me (and I dont work in a sales envirnoment) and I had to give a number, then I would give a base salary value I would not go below but make it clear that it shouldn't be interpreted as a value you would actively accept at.

Then move on to talk about you would want to know that the bonus strutcture and benefits are as the "overall package value" is the key determining factor.
