Help needed - cheap DVD's

Hi, Can anybody help me please? If I use cheap DVD's (to put photos and video clips on) can they damage the pc/player they are recorded/played on? I have purchased some cheap DVD+R from 99p shop and Hubby is worried they might cause damage. Thanks in advance, Meryl

Thanks for replying so quickly Browntoa,
I just wanted to put some photos and video clips on for my Brother who is bedridden these days, I thought it would be easier for him to see on screen rather than photos as his eyesight isn't that good, so they aren't for my own storage.:)

The discs will cause no harm whatsoever. The most vulnerable part of the DVD drive, the laser mechanism, never actually touches the disc surface, so can't be harmed by cheap discs.

Your mileage may vary, but the cheap discs are often just as good as the well known brands. Like most other consumer products, there are relatively few disc manufacturers and the cheap discs are often just unbranded "quality" discs made in the same factory.

I used to buy DVDs from these people.. they charge £12 for 100 DVDs and £7 for courier shipping. No doubt cheaper companies are around..

I suspect if you bought them from the 99p store you probably paid over the odds. 50 noname blanks using Ritek dye (very reliable in my experience) should be around £7

Ritek G05 dye to be more precise.
