Oh so nothing to do with knowing what drivers actually had enough hours left to legally be able to drive and who had had sufficient daily rest to be able to start at the time required.

That'll explain why many times my sleep was interrupted by someone who had sent me on a night job then wanted me to drive the following day.....

For those people reading this who work as recruitment consultants in the haulage sector, I suggest you read up on the EU Drivers Hours regulations. That way when a driver tells you they can't drive, you'll realise its because legally they're not allowed to - not because they're being awkward.

Oh actually yes, that also, 9 hours break between shifts, I always looked at the start/finish times before ringing round to see who could actually work, which is why the on call was more than simply picking up the phone to ask someone coudl they work, which is what the manager thought. Something along the lines of working time directive, yep defintlye got myself clued up on that, can work 6 days week then you have to have a day off then you can only work 5 days the next then you must have 2 days off. Depending on actually how many hours in total you had been driving.

I'm a Recruitment Consultant and I don't do any sort of sales whatsoever.

I think a 'traditional' Recruitment Consultant would involve sales but not every kind.

No, every kind involves sales. Selling yourself, selling your company, selling your client, selling their jobs, selling the candidate to the client. Every bit of it is sales. So many people go into recruitment and treat it like customer service. Sure that's part of it, and those from this sort of background often do well, but at the end of the day recruitment relies on results and your ability to bring in those results. High street temp agencies and small, niche consultancies may go about this very differently, but they are still essentially, the same. I say this also as an RC (medical sector).

What you described above is exactly what my mother does for a security firm. Her job title is administrative manager. I wouldn't say you were a glorified receptionist, but i would say they were taking liberties with their job titles. Did you get a job description when you started work/ before you started? Not nice to start a job under the impression it's one thing, then be expected to do another entirely.
