Just wondering if anyone can let me know what is the best way to store these two?
Also, how long should they last before being unfit to eat?
I'm never quite sure?

Hi,
I store them in the cupboard, in an open dish. Both will keep at least two weeks, in my experience, though ginger will start to go a bit woody, you can still use the part that isn't. Try to get the absolute freshest when purchasing; garlic should be rock hard and ginger should not be shrivelled at all (when you break off a chunk, there should be few or no fibres showing on the broken bit).
HTHI want to move to theory. Everything works in theory.0 -
We buy jars of crushed Garlic and shredded Ginger. Keeps as long as you want in the fridgeI used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0

I keep my garlic and ginger in the fridge, in the cheese section (as blocks of cheese simply don't fit in there - pointless). Garlic keeps for ages - i've only thrown away one bulb ever which set root. Throw ginger out when it shrivels, or use it then in hot water as a decongestant

Depends on the make, and what they're in. Many of the good ones (like the English Provender Company ones) are preserved under vacuum, so once the lid's open, they only last a month. Best to freeze set amounts in ice-cube trays.0 -
I freeze ginger. Break into pieces, peel and store in a plastic bag in the freezer. You can grate it from frozen. It doesn't take long to defrost if you want to chop it.0

Hey all,
I too freeze ginger, generally we buy it up when its 10p in tesco! Same with chillis.
Garlic bulbs we keep in an open basket in the kitchen (buy nets of it when we're in France, actually lasts an indecently long time...) and have a glass jar with a big cork lid for the bulbs broken into cloves. If that makes sense?
the Lazee Ginger is a wonderful invention though, we always have a jar in the fridge too (we like ginger!)
