I would question the necessity of needing a cheque book account...?

After all, cheque facilities are quickly being phased out of the financial world....are they not?

Cheques are still actually quite useful. I often used to pay my massage lady with a cheque if I hadn't been able to get into the village to get the cash out. When I was totally housebound, without a cheque book, she would have had to give me a lift into the village and back just to get her money. I would then have felt obliged to pay her a bit more for the extra time/petrol.

I would have sent cheques instead of postal orders for my credit files too.

I use a financial management software and always mark payments in so the money is 'gone' from my account before the bank shows it paid.
When I joined, I needed a name. The forum members gave one to me...I am INAN :D

OH got a Barclaycard after he was declared bankrupt

Do you mean a Barclays Visa Debit card, I cannot see him getting a Barclaycard whilst being BR.

As for the original question, are you asking about a current account specifically or just a basic account?
