out of date eggs - yay or nay?

Just noticed that I have 12 free range eggs with a best before date of 21st March
Three out of the 12 were "floaters" which I think indicates that they're off.
I wanted to do some hard boiled eggs, but I'm really not sure.
Would you use them or err on the side of caution and chuck them?

If they float then they are off. Chuck em away! If not, then hardboiled would be bestI Believe in saving money!!!:T

Thank you - have boiled them now. Just hope they're ok!
Whilst on the subject of eggs . . .. .
when baking, if a recipe requires two eggs, but one of them is a double yolked one - is that now three eggs? Or do the yolks not count separately?0 -
I personally would still use 2:xmastree:Is loving life right now,yes I am a soppy fool who believes in the simple things in life :xmastree:0

Definitely use. "Best before" is only a guideline. I only listen to "use by"...and even then see whether it passes the "sniff" test

If you had your own hens how do you know how long to store them? can you date then with a marker? how long do eggs stay fresh and should they really be kept in the fridge?0

i hope not, i made a cake with 6 eggs - 6 of them double yolkers! Try separating those....
I would bin the floaters and keep the sinkers. You will soon know if an egg is off!:rotfl:
ill merge this with the out of date egg thread later

I never keep my hen's eggs in the fridge, always in a wire basket in the kitchen. I try and rotate the eggs, new eggs at the edges and pick from the middle of the basket. If I am behind in using eggs, I usually start a new basket of them, and use the older ones first.
The 'floater' method above is the best to use if unsure if egg is fresh or not. Those not so fresh (but not floaters) I would use in cooking/baking.0
