Washing machine rental

Hi. I couldn't quite find the right forum, hope this is ok.
I was considering renting a washing machine.
Mine is broken and I have to spend at least £4.50 a week in the laundrette, and more if I have to wash sheets so it will easily approach the £22 a month for renting a good machine and maybe the latter will be cheaper.
Also there seem to be lower rates on less good models to rent.
This seems like the best option as I don't have the money to drop on a new one, and it's good that they will repair it etc. Am I missing something though?
There's secondhand ones but you don't know how long they will last, and I don't have a car so would have to get one delivered from a shop which will add £££.

It's the classic rent or buy dilemma.
I paid £225 for a cheapo Beko about a year ago, and am hopeful it will last me a good while yet.
Say I only get three years out of it, that's still nearly £800 in rent I would have paid.
On the other hand, renting seems to suit your present circumstances.
It might be an idea to avoid signing a long contract, and try to save enough to buy a machine in a year or two.0 -
Have you thought about trying Gumtree or Freecycle to get a cheap or free second hand one. Even if it just lasts a few months, it gives you chance to save up for a new one.0

Yeh thanks. Even if buying makes sense, I just haven't got the money for a new one, so seems like renting makes more sense than laundrette.
The problem with gumtree and freecycle is that I haven't got a car. Or another strong guy near me to lift it really.0 -
...Why do you want someone to lift a motor car?...

Have you checked to see if any shops are offering interest free.
That is how I bought my machine.
It was comet I used and it was a beko, about 2 years ago and I was given 12 months interest free.
Hope you manage to get one soon.0 -
My washing machine has just given up on me and i don't have the spare cash i have decided to get one on a buy now pay later, you would need to know you have the spare money each month to buy it within the year but some catelogues offer £30 off on your first order, otherwise a second hand one alot of people won't mind delivering if you are local and will probably just charge £5 solves both the problem of no transport and someone to help unload
I know my first option is taking on a debt although so is signing up to a years rental something to think about£10 A DAY CHALLENGE £14.66/£300MAY SHOPPING BUDGET ££88.53/£300NSD 1/10AMERICA 2013 FUND £169.97/£3500 :jWEIGHTLOSS TO DATE 5st8lbs:jAMOUNT DEBT CLEARED SINCE APRIL 2011 £1481.31:beer:0 -

You could try your credit union. My credit union (I think they all do now) have a deal with co-op electrical where you can buy electrical goods at a discount price and pay it back through a loan with your credit union. You may have to be a member for a couple of months, but it is worth checking out and maybe join and use in the future.0
