American apparel sale con???

Morning people, I was after some advice regarding the American Apparel Sale.

I noticed yesterday that there was that mega sale until midnight, unfortunately when I went on the website they had closed the sale due to the "immense response" they had received. I checked the items I wanted to purchase last thing at night and they were still on the website for the same price as they were in the Sale.

I've gone back on it this morning to but the items and they've pretty much increased ALL their sale items by a few pounds. They're still advertising them as reductions, but are they allowed to do this??

I've worked in retail for over 12 years and the only time we've been able to raise the price of an item is if it was on special offer for a limited period.

I've never known anyone to reduce their sale items and then increase them again whilst still classified as being in a "sale"

Is this normal trading standards?

I don't know about the legalities of calling something "sale" when its gone back up to full price, but prices are allowed to go up and down, it is legal, sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings!

I do also know that a price reduction or offer is "an invitation to sell" an item at a reduced price, doesn't mean they have to honor it unfortunetly. Not exactly customer friendly but people can vote with their feet...

I would contact consumer direct for questions.

ASDA do it all the time. They 'rollback' the price from £2.69 to £2.00, and then stick it back up to £2.68 whilst still classifying it as a 'rollback'.
