Who told him he couldn't sell until he was up to date with his payments. Surely if he puts his house on the market, someone buys it and he gives the mortgage company all their money back, that has got to be a better prospect than owing more and more money and getting repossessed. I would put it up for sale now!

  • He got a letter from his mortgage company saying about reposession if he does not bring his account up to date and he phoned them after that and they advised him he could not sell - estate agents have told him it is the wrong time of year to put on the market too.

I will suggest about a lodger to him that could bring him in a bit more money each month. thank you

firstly i'ld suggest he posts an SoA here so we can see the full picture, can he include the value of the house and the mortgage

unless he is in negative equity i can't see any reason why he can't sell.

ignore the estate agent, your friend can't afford to wait until spring but needs to sell asap unless his SoA/lodger etc says otherwise.
