Guns are a really bad idea, they are designed for going through the ear and can rupture the cartilage on the nose. Very often, although the nose heals you end up with a lump called a granuloma that wont go until the stud is removed and the hole heals in most cases. To see a granuloma, click here though be warned:

I fought for months to cure one after I'd had a gun piercing (I was young and knew no better) to no avail and lost the piercing in the end. When I re pierced I did it myself with a needle and ice, not what I'd recommend personally but it seemed like a good idea at the time. That healed wonderfully and I've had no other problems.

For ears, guns are perfect. For all other body parts please go to a reputable piercer who uses needles.

Actually I would amend that to "for lobes, guns are fine"

I had the top of my ear pierced with a gun with horrific side effects.
    Bow Ties ARE cool

Whoops, yes, oversight on my part there! I never consider the tops of my ears simply because its one of the few places I haven't got pierced :p

But yes, a couple of friends have had gun piercings there and its not worked out for them. In an ideal world I'd like to see these beautician piercers banned because earrings have no place gun fired through noses, or anywhere other than lobes.

Can I add as well, a friend of mine thought it an excellent idea to get her nose pierced at a festival once.... Not only did she have to contend with gun trauma to a wound she had no hope of bathing, but an earring stud in her nose that she couldn't get a butterfly on. Of course by the sunday her nose was a red, puss filled mess and the stud was long lost.

The moral, don't get any body mods on a whim!

Its a lesson I learnt the hard way ! I endured being lanced with a scalpel (4 nurses to hold me down and no pain relief), 3 OPs, a week in hospital and a small fortune spent on meds as they couldnt decide which one i needed ! The top of my ear is now a shrivelled lump !

all because I was a stubborn 16 year old who knew better than their mum ;)

There and belly button have always been the 2 'off limits' to me, for the reason you mention. I'd seen too many people that had that happen.
Belly buttons too always seemed a pain to heal, so another I avoided.

That said, I retired my nipple piercings because I could never get those to heal properly, even after 3 years :(

Guns aren't fine for any piercings, I currently have 11 piercings (including my nose), but had 19 at one point! (and I'm only 19 myself :D). I wouldn't recommend anyone have any piercings done with a gun full stop.

Also, I go to reputable piercers and my piercings never cost more than £30 (a very tricky surface piercing on my wrist), I think my nose was about £13 with a really nice bar in it!
