house left in will

hi, both my wife and I are the executors of her fathers will.
We have been left to organise funeral and all other costs involved with his death.
The only asset that was left was his home which was left to my wife.The home has been sold for over 2 weeks now and the solicitor has yet to contact us about the settlement of the funds from the sale.
There are no organisations to be paid from the funds and we are unsure of the time we should expect the funds to be released.
Thanks.
Any info would be appreciated,

Presumably probate been applied for & granted ?
Ask the solictor (don't be shy about chasing them) - presumably he/she is simply conveyancing. If so payment should be made to the estate as soon as the sale completes (that statement is from best recollection - as he/she will already have established your right to act in the sale).Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Hi and thanks for your reply,
I believe all title deeds for the property etc must have been dealt with as the house has now sold.
It must only be conveyancing time that we are waiting to complete.0 -
When you say sold, do you mean :
an offer has ben accepted or;
Contracts have been exchanged or;
Completion has taken place or;
All the above ?0 -

Is the solicitor handling probate for you as well or just the conveyancing?
If the former, don't expect anything very quickly. He will pay any debts first, and then be fairly diligent about ensuring there are no undiscovered debts - advertising for creditors etc0 -
Either way, if I was the wife I'd be on the phone right now to the solicitor who sold the house to check the exact whereabouts of the funds and when they are to be transferred to my account rather than having hubby ask questions on MSE like whether it might be polite to ask

The time to convey was completed the moment the conveyance was completed.It must only be conveyancing time that we are waiting to complete
This suggestion of not expecting anything very quickly - if the solicitor is handling probate and doing the checking as suggested will a proper level of interest be accumulating for the benefit of the estate or is that just grist to the mill of a steady solicitor's office?0 -
If, as it now appears, as executors you have appointed the solicitors to deal with 'the whole issue of settling the will' the situation is different (as dzug correctly indicates).
The advice is the same - ask the solicitor (and don't be frightened of them).Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

as far as i know there is nothing very difficult or time consuming with this case.
The main part must have already been dealt with, that being the house sale which has completed and transfer of deeds/owner to my wifes name.
Everything else eg. funeral costs, have been paid and I believe its only the solicitors costs that are left to be paid.
thanks,0 -
I agree with the other suggestions that the quickest and most reliable answer to "how long do I have to wait for my money?" will come from the solicitor who has your money.loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.0

I don't know if things are different in Scotland, but we had to wait for 6 months from the date of passing to make sure that no-one was owed any money from the estate. Phone up your solicitor's office.0
