plenty of people have to move away from areas to cheaper ones because of their personal financial situation.

this housing benefit cut is a good condem policies imho. and i'm not a fan as a rule

To get full LHA I assume they are not working. If they have 2 kids which it looked like checking on entitled to they would get £605 a week with the £350 LHA were getting £685 with £430. With £350 LHA if one of them got a minimum wage job they would get £497 benefits and £196 pay making £693 easy answer get job and will be able to stay.

wonder if it's jsa or dla (or whatever it's called these days). maybe they are too depressed to move? (house and off the sofa).

Someone probably needs to explain this to them as they don't seem to grasp it.

They've gone from a system where they didn't need a job to live in Islington to a system where they now need a minimum wage job to live in Islington.

It's hardly the social cleansing we heard about. More like a gentle push and you never know they might build up some self esteem and set an example to their kids if they went out and tried to support themselves.

Done a quick check and I might have made a mistake looks the first 2 figures should be £620 and £700 still hold true I would say. Benefit i used is income support.

quite why they can't move a couple of miles up the road to my manor (tottenham) where the house prices / rents are a lot cheaper is beyond me. it's only a short bus ride / tube trip / bike ride away. and it's not as if they have to commute.....

tbh even if they can't afford to stay with a minimum wage job i don't see why that entitles them to state money to stay in islington.

it's hardly a great hardship to move to a cheaper part of town, is it?

i'm on a good wage and my and OH live in a one bed in a cheaper part of north london. yes i'd like a 3 bed house in islington but can't afford it. i don't feel sorry for myself and don't expect anyone else to either.

seriously i'd far rather this money went into improving schools (so that those who live in poor areas still get a decent education) or subsidising tuition fees to help social mobility than letting the !!!!less (okay that's a bit judgey) live in first choice of area.

Well it would be better if rents were cheaper we will have to see what happens. But you do need people doing lower paid jobs in London and they have to live somewhere I suppose you could increase wages but that won’t happen.

If you aren't working it doesn't really matter where you are I suppose.

well having no idea and not wishing to be honest, to find out what it must be like to live in a city such as London being the poor country boy I am, If their is not any cheap properties to rent in the capital and its suburbs then they will eventually not have the low paid workers there to do the jobs that need doing so the knock on effect some of these areas will go a tad bit scruffy prices will fall a little, rents will fall a little and and it will I assume go back to as it was .

even in london there are pockets of affordable housing. it might not be in the best area but it's still affordable. most minimum wage jobs are part time anyway and most people in the capital can expect to be paid more than minimum wage.
