in Cutting tax
As from next year we will have to pay £35.00 for each cat we have.
This is a EU directive. This is to help the likes of the Prime minister and other senior ministers have a better pension.
I know the PM said we were all in this together didnt realise it meant my furry friends as well.

I love it.
What ever next a law to make it a reportable offence to run one over?
A law allowing a claim off the owner when swerving to avoid one causes an accident?
Proceeds could be given to the RSPB.
If one owned a three legged cat could one claim a 25% discount.
Export the body to Korea and reclaim the VAT on exports - zero rated foodstuff
You know it makes sense.
We had a superbly believable one over on the "Debate" part of the forum a few years ago.0 -

Well the story must be genuine because it appeared in the Daily mail and I am sure it has nothing to do with the 1st April!!!!!!:rotfl::rotfl:0 -

There will also be a £5 levy on goldfish, so if your cat eats a goldfish, it'll cost you £40 a year.
Anyone out there old enough to remember the annual dog licence at 7/6d (37.5p).If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -
Was it not more expensive than a marriage licence - thus proving that man's best friend is his dog.0

Can't remember how much a marriage licence cost back in the 1960s, I thought it was about 25/- (£1.25) but I'm probably completely wrong. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0

This is probably what the old saying about it being more expensive to get a dog than a wife was based on:
A registrar shall be entitled to receive from persons married under this Part of this Act in his presence the sum of ten shillings if the marriage is by licence and, in any other case, the sum of five shillings.
Marriage act 1949. (As more and more marriages were civil marriages rather than religious ones).
From Wikipedia:
Great BritainDog licensing was abolished in 1988. Prior to this dog licences were mandatory, but the requirement was widely ignored, with only about half of owners having one. The final rate for a dog licence was 37 pence, reduced from 37½p when the halfpenny was withdrawn in 1984. This figure was an exact conversion from 7/6 (seven shillings and sixpence) on decimalization in 1971. The revenue went to local authorities.0 -

I always thought that was a reference to the marriage licence.
Now you have me worrying about whether it had a much darker meaning but, even at the age of 60, I can't bring myself to ask my mum.0 -
In 1974 it was just shy of £15, best £15 I ever spent.
