Token Payments - Payment Method?

Options
After speaking to CCCS, I'm about to cancel all my CC DD's and send the letters to everyone along with token payments - which method of paying the £1 token gesture is favoured by members? I have no cheque book with my cashminder account so I think I'll need to send payments via SO or PO, is this correct?

Do I send the letters first and then wait to hear from creditors before sending the token payment? Or send a payment as soon as my online banking access is set up?

This is a complete mine field and I have a million or so other questions and things to do but not really sure where to start and feel totally out of control which is really quite crazy when I think that for the first time in years I might actually be in control finally. I am scared of the journey ahead though :(

    Hi DNW,

I paid my token payments by cheque, but would advise whichever is the cheaper option though. I'd also send a token payment with the first letter and then continue to do this regularly. Things do go a bit crazy at first with phone calls and letters threatening all sorts up to but just short of death, but they're pretty much empty threats to frighten you. Pay them what you can afford and don't let them bully or harass you into paying more. Post on the forum for help and support anytime you need it. There are letters to prevent doorstep visits and I've also posted a letter below to be contacted only in writing, as they'll phone repeatedly. If they do phone, don't go through the security check with them and hang up.

    Good luck

    Dear Sirs,

    Account No: XXXXXXXX

I am writing in relation to the quantity and frequency of telephone calls that I have received from your company, which I deem to be personally harassing. I have verbally requested that these stop, but I am still receiving calls and I now require all further correspondence from your company to be made in writing only. I am of the view that your continued harassment of me by telephone puts you in breach of Section 40 of the Administration of Justice Act 1970, and the Protection from Harassment Act 1997.

If you continue to harass me by telephone, you will also be in breach of the Communications Act (2003) s.127 and I will report you to OFCOM, Trading Standards and The Office of Fair Trading, meaning that you will be liable to a substantial fine. Be advised that any further telephone calls from your company may be recorded and used in evidence and I expect this harassment to cease immediately.

    Yours faithfully
If you've nothing decent to say, perhaps you shouldn't say anything.
